Hey Beauty of Creativity lovers! Today I found a beautiful insect. At first glance, it looks like a dragonfly. But this one isn't a dragonfly, it's an owlfly.
In entomology, it is classified into the family Ascalaphidae, a member of the order Neuroptera, not the order Odonata (Dragonfly and Damselfly). The scientific name Ascalaphidae was first described by the French entomologist, Jules Pierre Rambur, in 1842.
The owlfly has large, bulging copper-brown eyes, and strongly knobbed antennae—this physical trait distinguishes it from dragonflies. The thorax, back, and abdomen are light brown, and there is a black and white stripe on the abdomen. In my area, owlflies are rare. This is the first time I have seen an owlfly.
