Yellow Potter Wasp (Delta sp.)

in hive-144064 •  3 years ago

This is a yellow potter wasp that I found in a park near the Pusong reservoir. I think it's a potter wasp of the genus Delta. Yes, Delta is a genus of pottery wasps belonging to the family Vespidae, with species distributed mostly in Asia and tropical Africa.

At first glance, yellow potter wasps are similar to yellow jackets, only they have long jaws. The thorax is brown, the back is yellow, and it has a black pattern. It has a long abdomen with a narrow waist. Potter wasps build mud nests in tree branches and they usually don't live in colonies.
