Happy start to the month of July dear friends of BoC. We continue to share articles that delight with the natural beauties of many regions of the world.
Today I share with you some very interesting photos of the shell of a “cigarra”, “cicada” or “chicharra” (that's what we call it in Venezuela). They are insects that exist in all parts of the world and we identify them by the resonant sound that males emit to attract females.
The model for this session is the empty shell that cicadas leave behind when they shed their last skin, after having been buried in larval stages for some time. I found it hanging from a dry branch on the edge of the road, and it practically shows us all the parts of the adult body of said insect. Also, I liked how many of the shots turned out.
The capture was made around 10:30 am, there was a lot of direct sun on the shell and in some shots I created shadows with my body. The camera used is the A7S of the UMIDIGI cell phone, placed in macro mode. I did manual zooms and zoomed from 1X to 2X. The editing was minimal, just cropping and lighting management.
Its development goes through several stages, egg, nymphs and adults. The nymphs bury themselves to finish developing and can take up to a decade in some species before coming to the surface and leaving the shell.
