Around 9:30 on Saturday, the fire broke out at the BM Container Depot located in the Kadmarsul region.
Chattogram Fire Service personnel failed to control the flames, and reinforcements arrived from Cumilla, Noakhali, and Feni at 3:30 AM.
According to ASI Alauddin Tallukder, the hospital's police station, 41 bodies had been found and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue.

Treister bodies have been identified. Five of the victims are firefighters.
These are Moniruzzaman 32, Mominul Haque 24, Md Mohiuddin 22, Habibur Rahman 26, Rabiul Alma 19, Tofayel Ahmad 22, Tofayel 22.
Anisur Rahman (deputy director of Chattogram's divisional fire service) stated that the fire had been brought under control, but it was re-emerging due to repeated explosions.
People who came to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital searching for treatment reported that poisonous gas was spreading after the blasts.
Mohiuddin, a patient at Park View Hospital, was one of the deceased.
Fifteen injured and burnt fire service personnel are treated in different hospitals, including Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Shahjahan stated that two additional workers were not found.
Md Yusuf, chief of RAB-7, stated, "We tried to rescue people trapped in the depot. We saved many people.
In the fire, at least 11 police officers were burned and injured. Two of them were sent to Dhaka to receive better treatment.
Private hospitals have been used to transport patients. Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammed Elias Chowdhury asked the city's doctors to help the injured.
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin visited the depot this morning. He stated that the district administration would pay Tk 50 000 to each family of the deceased and Tk 20 000 to each injured. He said a probe committee with representatives from all departments would be quickly formed.
"The army is here. Last night, a fire broke out and is still burning. The depot has a drain that leads to a canal. This canal connects to the sea. The army is working to stop the chemicals from entering the sea.
Lt Col Munira Sultana stated, "Our main task is to protect seawater from chemical agents. That goal is being pursued. It isn't yet known how many containers contain chemicals.
Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Port Chairman, stated, "We can't locate those managing the depot." They will be able to guide the fire service. Only then can it be put out. They should come as soon as they can.
"All export products arrive here. These products could contain chemicals. According to the fire department, there were 26 chemical containers. I was able to see equipment inside, but not people."
