On January 1 2025, early in the morning, russians hit Kyiv with drones. Such attacks happen all the time. Thanks to the air defense, Kyiv is not in ruins. But that's what these terrorists want to achieve - to spread despair and horror among the civil population.
In this historical building, russians killed a family of scientists, neurophysiologist Ihor Zyma and biochemist Olesia Sokyr (link to the article about them).
The building across the street is even older. It was built in 1879 and was called the House of Liberman (by the name of the businessman, owner from those times). Since 1953 this building has been a place of the Writers Union of Ukraine. Since the 1990s this is a really important place that held multiple cultural, literal, and political events. I personally visited this building many times for book presentations, art events, etc.

One more building that was damaged on Bankova Street is a building of committees of Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament). The majority of parliamentary committees (where deputies have offices) are located in another building on another street. But some are located here. I used to have an office there are worked for some time in 2014. Of course, I admire this part of Kyiv, the so-called "State Quarter". We might suppose that the target of russian terrorists was the Office of the President which is located nearby. This is only 1 strike - 1 target. They continue to strike, they send their criminals and regular army to capture more territory. This terror continues for 3 years. Just an ordinary day in Kyiv. For news outlets and international audiences - this might be only statistics. But that's a tragedy of family members and friends of scientists' who were killed. This is a tragedy of Kyiv city which has more and more scars on its face...
