Arcadia is one of the most famous resort areas in Odessa. It got its name from the mountainous region of Greece - Arcadia, according to legend - this is an idyllic place on earth. Now there are controversial opinions about the currently existing "idyll" in this place. Since in 2014, by the decision of the mayor's office, the appearance of the main Arcadian alley was significantly transformed into a modern way. And as a result, some of the inhabitants of Odessa did not like this transformation.
Before the creation of modern Arcadia, a small river flowed there. The riverbed extended to the Arcadian gully, where it flowed into the sea. At the end of the 18th century, there was a Wittgenstein farm here. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was bought by the future Decembrist Sergei Volkonsky. On the future Gagarin plateau and slopes, dynasties known at that time began to build their summer cottages and estates: Sturdza-Edling, Dunina, Marazli, Rodokonaki, Mavrokordato, Papudova. At the end of the 19th century, a plot of land between the Small Fountain and the Arcadian beam (the territory of modern Arcadia) belonged to Princess Gagarina. Now the plateau above the Arcadian beam is called the Gagarin plateau.
For the weekend I decided to take a walk in Arcadia and along the way I took some photos there. It should be noted right away that the weather was cloudy, it was drizzling lightly and there were not so many people.
This is how the entrance to the Arcadian alley looks like:
In the center of the alley itself there are various shops, small restaurants, game attractions, ALOHA water park, singing fountains (which function mainly during the holiday season). The road is paved with modern tiles.
Closer to the sea are the popular nightclubs "Ibiza", "Ithaca" - a venue for performances of all kinds of pop "stars". Last year, for obvious reasons, there were not many concerts here, but as clubs they functioned (now they are closed).
To the left of the club "Ibiza" down the alley are two popular restaurants "Rebernya" and "Crimea". The chip of the first one is the absence of the usual cutlery - you just need to eat meat with your hands, the second one presents the Crimean Tatar cuisine, there are spoons and forks) The prices are reasonable and everything is very tasty.
Well, actually the sea itself on this day, in the photo below. As I wrote above, the day was cloudy and we were slightly stormy. That's all for now, peace and goodness to all).
