Hi everyone!
This is the 4th part of my series of writings about uncommon sea creatures. Today I would like to talk about the "Coffinfish" which is also known as "the sea toad". This fascinating creature is a deep-sea anglerfish that belongs in the family of Chaunacidae.
As I said earlier, it's a deep-sea creature so they can be found at least 8 thousand feet deep in the ocean and they are common in Indian. Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Most of the coffin fishes are pink or red. They have loose skin and small spine-like scales.
From the front side of this fish, it looks like a sad smile on its face. The mouth is large and full of small sharp teeth. They are kind of motionless and always wait for their prey to come close enough then they ambush to eat them. The food list of Coffinfish is small fish, shrimp, squid, worms, etc.
The specialty of the Coffinfish is they expand their body up to 30% of their original size and allow them to hold more oxygen and can stay up to four minutes without breathing. The gill opening is behind the pectoral fins. This amazing creature can walk on the seafloor using its fins.
Thanks for reading my post. Hope that you have learned something new. If you have ever seen this sea creature then comment below and let me know about it.😀
Best regards
