Once upon a time, a farmer had an ox. The ox worked hard to help the farmer, and the farmer took good care of the ox. Every
evening, the farmer would feed the ox and pat him lovingly on the head.
There was a flea that had made his home in
the ox's shed. This flea would bite the poor ox all over. He would also taunt the ox, saying, "You fool, you work so hard for the farmer, and all he gives you is some oats and a pat on the head.
Why do you feel so happy when he pats you?”
The poor ox didn't argue and just kept silent.
One evening, the flea came and sat on the
ox's forehead to bite him. But he did not notice the farmer's coming. The farmer, not noticing the flea, patted the ox on the forehead. The flea fell to the ground
badly hurt by the farmer's hand. Later, when the farmer left, the ox looked down at the fallen flea and said, "Now you see how the
farmer's pat has helped me. It has helped me get rid of you."
