Introduction
Self medication is gradually spreading and increasing in our society today. In my opinion I don't think there's anyone out there that have not done self medication before, Sometimes it turn out to be good while sometimes we regret doing it. I am also a victim of self medication below are my reasons and experience.
Have you self-medicated at some point in your life? If the answer is yes, tell us why. (Talk about your experience)
Why not my answer is Yes i doubt if there's anyone out there that have not done self-medication.
Honestly speaking my experience was not easy at all as i nearly lost my life, I felt as if I was been taking of from the surface of this Earth slowly 😢 my experience was very terrible. It all started when I felt pains all over my body and severe headache, I taught it was normal pain, I took paracetamol and ibuprofen I believe paracetamol relief one from headache and ibuprofen relief one from pains. I taught it was normal, I never taught it was malaria that was disturbing me until it became chronic and I was rushed to the hospital by my neighbors (my family members were not around) after two day of self medication. I was admitted immediately and I spent about two weeks in the hospital.
This was probably the worst 2 weeks of my life, I felt dead even when I was still alive I had no single atom of strength in me, I even sometimes wished I was dead than alive experiencing it something that have never happened to me in my entire life.
Luckily for me, I was treated successfully and became strong again all thanks to my mother for her constant care and support, my family member for their prayers, the doctor for his treatment and most importantly all thanks to God 🙏 for saving my life.
Did someone tell you to take that or those drugs? Does that person have medical knowledge?
No one told me to take those drugs i been doing self medication in the past and it has worked for me, so I wondered why this particular different.
Talking about medical knowledge I have some medical knowledge about drugs I was taught in school and I also practiced it for some time.
Why didn't you go to a health professional
Then i was facing financial difficulties all the health professional in my area will always ask for deposit of money first before attending to you, so I decided to selfmedicate to save my life, Aside from that I was the only one at home then my parents and siblings traveled, my phone was stolen from me and I didn't have a means of communicating with them.
How did it go with that medication? Can you tell us the name and what you used for
It went bard😢 it was and experience I will not forget in a hurry, The name of the drugs were paracetamol and ibuprofen i used it for headache and body pain I taught it could cure it.
Do you know the risk of medication
Yes I do know the risk and disadvantages attached to self medication, some of them are:
- incorrect dosage of drugs
- sometimes overdosage of drugs
- it makes us to relax, instead of seeking medical advice when needed
- Sometimes it lead to prolonging of the duration we suppose to take the drugs.
All this 4 mentioned may lead to lost of life.
But I had to do it, I had no option then, I bet you anyone who was in my shoe will do the same.
Do you think self medication is good or is it necessary to go to a professional in the area
Even though I had a bad experience, selfmedication is sometimes good, but I will not advise anyone to self-medicate. It is always necessary to go to a professional, because it's their field of operations and studies you may sometimes have symptoms of malaria instead of going for a test you will just conclude that it's malaria that is disturbing you which is very bad.
In conclusion
Self medication is a risk it sometimes turn out to be good and it sometimes turn out to be bad, my advise to those out there is to always go the hospital when ever you feel symptoms of sickness in you. You can learn from my experience

Hello @bonaventure24
Wow, what a bad experience that must have been, luckily it didn't get worse, because you were treated on time. What you say is true, it is rare for someone who has not self-medicated, luckily most of the time it does not hurt, but it usually happens that it does, and it can get complicated to a very serious condition.
Good luck in the contest, thanks for participating.
