I always see many people breakdown when they face certain mental health problems because they fall victim to situations such as loss of a loved one, facing long term trauma, depression, heart break, drug abuse and many more.

My participation in the contest is to pass any valuable information to all #steemithealth members and participants of this contest on how I manage my mental health when faced with similar situations in life and I hope it goes a long way to save an individual from suffering mental health problems.

  1. What do you know about mental health?

The definition of mental health as given by the CDC is given as such;

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.

But I see mental health as a state of equilibrium of emotional, psychological and social lifestyle of an individual and whenever these 3 factors are not in perfect equilibrium then the mental health of the individual is affected.

  1. What causes mental health disorders?

There are many causes of mental health disorders which exists around the world and most people get mental disorders based on the threshold of the minds given the same cause and also on how they chose to manage their mental health.

Mental disorders may be caused by the following factors;

  • Trauma; In any case where the individual received or experienced a tragic event or an unforgettable event that renders them incapable mentally these includes rape, war events, tragic death of loved one, etc.

  • Drug abuse; Taken drugs like marijuana, Cocain, thai, and weeds there are so many more that I didn’t mention. These hard drugs contain dangerous chemicals that alter brain chemistry and can influence mental health(causing hallucinations, extreme dizziness, drunkenness, weakness)

  • Biological causes; This a normal case where just an imbalance of chemicals in the brain leads to a mental health disorder, this happens to nearly 50% of Americans and can either be permanent or temporary.

  • Early life experience: This is a case where a young person starts taking up family responsibilities like caring for parents, young ones , paying bills, paying tuition fees, managing business, going to school and so much more. If the individual doesn’t know how to manage their mental health, the person might fall victim of mental disorder.

  • Having adverse feelings; This might have been experienced by almost everyone, feelings such as self doubt, fear of unknown, loneliness, anger, and so on.

  1. And how do you manage your mental health?

This is the question I’ve been waiting to answer, my mental health is managed in so many ways and I hope you relate to one of them.
Although I don’t have any mental disorder (non that I know of) but I experience factors that leads to mental disorders.

So this is how I manage my mental health;

  • Staying Positive: When I get adverse feelings I always stay positive, and meanwhile it helps to dismiss the feelings I’m having.

  • Listening to music; This helps me in the case of sad feelings, I listen to happy music to cheer me up and this helps sometimes.

  • For people who have drug addiction I would recommend having a therapist for help and to also manage the consequences. Though you can do it on your own but it won’t be easy.

  • Eating brain foods; This is to avoid those chemical imbalances I was talking about. Eating brain foods helps reduce the possibility of chemical imbalances, brain foods includes; cocoa beans, yogurt, walnuts, fish etc.

I conclude by saying to all participants to make their mental health a priority, take possible measures to keep a healthy mental health and also developing it this puts you at an advantage when you are faced with adversities.
