Steemit Engagement Challenge Season8 Week1: My learning during the pandemic

in hive-145281 •  2 years ago

A quick introduction, my name is Thomisin and I am a health practitioner I love anything health-related, and the pandemic thought us lots of lessons. The COVID-19 pandemic was an undoubtedly challenging and transformative time for people across the globe which brought about significant changes in the way we work, socialize, and interact with ourselves and the world around us. Many of us around the world have learned a lot during the pandemic and we have gained several insights and experiences. The pandemic has taught us a lot of valuable lessons and I will be sharing my experience in this post.

What do you consider to be the main lesson you learned from the pandemic?

The pandemic thought us a lot of lessons and as an individual placing more concern for my health was one of the major things I learned. Since I work at a hospital, I am used to assisting patients in the hospital in cases of emergency even without knowing the type of ailments or conditions they suffer from. I remembered a day when a patient was rushed into the hospital and I needed to assist. I didn't remember to use gloves because I was rushing to help the patient but then I was able to assist the patient. Do not crucify me yet, it happens with people in the medical field but when the pandemic came, I knew I had been taking a lot of things with levity. I knew I didn't care much about my health but I was always caring for others. The pandemic made me understand that I could have been infected by other patients during the process of helping them on days when I forget to use my gloves. I understood the extent of my carelessness with my health while trying to care for others. Other lessons I learned with the pandemic include understanding that we need to love one another. The pandemic also made me understand that things can change very fast and technology was indeed needed to make our lives easier.

Did you have any loss of family or friends because of the pandemic? Can you tell us about it?

While I didn't lose any close family or friends to the pandemic, I commiserate with people who lost loved ones and friend to the pandemic. I volunteered during the period of the pandemic to help at isolation centers to help bring medical stuffs and other materials to the center.

What was the most difficult moment during the pandemic?

The most difficult part of the pandemic for me was dealing with my mental health. I was scared of losing my life seeing different people who had the virus struggling to survive. I was not allowed to leave the Isolation center and the store. I was had to live with that for months and for the first few weeks, it was intense. I was fully protected by the protective gown even though I was not close to people who had the virus. The social distance in the center was enough to make a person safe. Other people outsife had difficulty getting food items and so many people were stranded as they didn't have any job to do. I got stipends for my voluntary service and although i wasn't able to use the money earned during the lockdown period, but it did became useful after the lockdown period.

After all that process, do you value your health more?

This is a question I guess you if you have been following my post, you already know my answer. I was scared during th heat of the pandemic and I was at the fronttline helping people, so I must say that with all sincerity that I am very much concern and careful with matters that relate to my health. I have learned to cherish every moment that I have, and become more safety oriented. I do not forget to use my nose mask even till date, and i am always changing my gloves all the time.

Did the pandemic impact your finances positively or negatively? How did you cope?

Majority of the people around the world had a negative experience with their finance because a lot of company retrenched workers, so many didn't pay salary of workers since they were closed but I would say that my finance was positively impacted as I was paid for my services. I was happy i wasn't anywhere close to the patients but I was able to work and generate income during the pandemic. I did fine during the pandemic since feeding wasn't a concern of mine since several agencies and bodies provided feeding to volunteer workers during this period.

I must confess that the pandemic was a period to learn and moving forward, we must take these lessons to heart.

Oh dear taking about being scared 😨 I was overwhelmed! Maybe because I read so many things during this period. I didn't allow my hubby to travel during that period, after begging for days and I accepted, I used to call him every seconds. Haha 😂 the pandemic taught me the value of health and the need to protect our lives. You did excellently well by helping out during the period, you were so brave, just keep it up I wish you success!

Haha.... I can understand that feeling. There was a lot going on during the pandemic, and it was a very scary period, and my mum was literally doing video call with me every moment all through.

Haha 😂 yes o especially the news that Africans will die like houseflies, that corpse will be found on streets. I could recalled when I was down for malaria, I was scared for my life praying I shouldn't contact the virus 🦠 I vividly recalled calling my sis who's a nurse and narrate all the symptoms I had. Lol 😂😂

I can relate to this. The fuzzy was much and people were scared.

You have written well concerning the pandemic season. In fact, the pandemic teaches us on how to protect and take care of our health. What i really enjoy was the 3 or 4 persons in a vehicle while traveling. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it was something the authorities took seriously, and the commercial drivers capitalized on them. I must confess that it is an experience I do not want to be a part of till I leave mother earth.

Alright

Thank you for sharing your experience and insights, Thomisin. It's great to see how the pandemic has taught you to value your health more and become more safety-oriented. It's also admirable that you volunteered to help at isolation centers during the pandemic. It's unfortunate that many people experienced negative impacts on their finances during this time, but it's good to hear that you were positively impacted. The pandemic has indeed taught us many lessons, and it's important to take these lessons to heart as we move forward.

A lot of people experienced negative effects during this period. A lot of people lost their lives to the pandemic, and others lost financial status. It is good that we learn

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate this.

Hello friend, it was not really a nice era we pray that should occur again. It was terrifying, lives were lost, the media platforms took it upon themselves to scare the life out of us with their stories.
You did great by volunteering during this period due to your profession. Thank you for giving back to humanity. Best of luck with your participation in the contest.

Thanks a lot for reading through my post. I was very scared as well but since I wasn't close to the patient who had the virus, I was rest assured.

🥰🤗

Hi @thomisin, wow, nice reading from you. Your profession must have kept you in the frontline. It was also good that you are writing your experience yourself. Your selfless acts to humanity would keep you going in life.

Also endeavor to always visit home @steem4nigeria community 😊

Thanks a lot, @xkool24 I do not pray we witness a pandemic in our lifetime again, and I will surely visit the #steem4nigeria community.

You are the only one who uses bare hands with gloves to check patients. I have seen a doctor doing that to me but his major concern was not him getting infected, he was only pitying me that my wound should not get infected so that it will heal on time. When the nurse brought gloves to him he used it and continue attending to me. The pandemic makes you people to really be more careful of yourselves and the public. You people did amazing during the pandemic.

Exactly, Before the pandemic, a lot of doctors will do many non-bloody related treatment without gloves at first instance but with the pandemic, everyone became extra careful.

Volunteering is the greatest work one can do for humanity and I applaud you for that.

It must have been very successful but I'm glad that you could still earn and cope fine. Spot on!

Thanks a lot that you read through my post, I am glad that you did.
