SFR Chronicles: Flag Trail Anniversary and @imacryptorick

in hive-145452 •  5 years ago  (edited)

It's been a year since the debut of @steemflagrewards' Flag Trail. It didn't come without some controversies. Some of them was clear from the comment section alone. A year later, the trail is still active and provides downvote support. The trail also provides countermeasures against retaliatory votes.

To the creator, @reazuliqbal, this tool alone has had sustained usage in the past year. As you can see, there was a demand for such thing after all. Later that year, @howo's proposal for a Downvote Control Tool became one of the first items approved for DAO funding.

From the trail's original introductory post, I want to focus on a comment:

You might ask yourself what was the juicy drama in that edited comment? Well, we are on a blockchain, every character you post here is eternal. Let's take a time machine and check out some history.

Some of you may feel appalled at the choice of words. I, for one, found them funny. I sure couldn't come up with this level of roast.

This was exactly how passionate @imacryptorick felt about the cause he supported. Some others in @utopian-io might have disagreed. Well, they aren't here to offer their opinions anymore save a few that are still lurking. There exist those who believed Utopian got strong-armed into rewarding that contribution.

This is one of the times that members from SFR felt support from big stakeholders. It wasn't only him. There were @fulltimegeek, @ausbitbank, etc. who shared similar sentiments. Rick would go on to sponsor other curation and anti-abuse projects. He would also gather those initiatives in a communication hub to facilitate cooperation.

         It's better than STINC's "secret-no-so-secret" Slack.

Some feel saddened that he has decided to power down his entire stake in recent times. But, the impact from his support lives on. Whatever people felt about him, he believed in Steem, and he set out to do something about it. He should be an example to those who aspire to do something on this platform.

Whether or not you choose to stick around, @imacryptorick, we thank you for your support. SFR could not have made it this far without your involvement. Good luck to you on your next pursuit.

You chose a difficult, but necessary, stance in anti-abuse. Even if others do not agree with the fruit of your labor, you have done far more than those who sit around and complain.

@enforcer48; that is wonderfully written. I still consider myself a noob; so I clearly do not know all the back story and the individuals mentioned here to understand the details properly; but that said my ignorance can be seen as a blessing as well. I don’t really know a whole lot about SFR. I have just seen the surface and the way I understand blockchain governance, I feel projects like SFR plays a very important role. It is a thankless job, and people often forget you don’t get paid for it.... not any meaningful way anyways. Which makes is tougher. Dealing with all the curses and complaining for free for doing something right perhaps requires a special type of personality. So I thank you all for the work that you do. You are fighting against a primal human instinct “greed” and therefore people obviously get defensive when it was pointed out. This simple fact makes your job so difficult. But I am thankful that you guys do it. Kudos to you and the team.

Thanks for your encouraging comment.

I think this might be a fun series to write in the SFR Hivemind community. Other people are welcome to contribute.

There are a number of people who complained how anti-abuse initiatives aren't "transparent" enough. Well, might as well toss them some info to satiate their curiosity.

Wow! Its already been a year. Time sure flies. Thinking about it gives me chills. 😉

That's how I felt when I turned 30 last year.

What a shame. We need to have stakeholders with a good mindset, whether they actively participate or not. Sometimes you've got to step away for a while. If and when I get to that point, I will probably follow a few trails at 100% and archive my keys. Maybe come back in a year and see what's up.

Well, he's had a hands off approach for a while. So, I would say he most likely did what you described, and decided it's time to go.

Fair enough. I don't think I ever interacted with him.

I think you'd have liked him.

Step away or watch your earnings go down the drain, either that he's got another account built up enough to drain this one out.

Oh that Utopian ordeal. That was a fun one... But in the end it worked out.

I remember the outrage from @elear's staff when Utopian conceded and gave the vote.

You have DRAMA!

There's your lazy ass. Last time I looked your token was getting as useless as trying to eat an apple with two teeth. Jesus, do something, grow some hair, get some lashes sewn on, maybe some dentures, maybe people will take notice you are still around.
