BLICK IN DEN SPIEGEL / lOOK INTO THE MIRROR

Meine Stellung bei der Neuvorstellung ist natürlich mal wieder im Sitzen: meine Aktivitäten sind das meistens, da es sich um Schreiben und Übersetzen auf deutsch oder spanisch (in inspirierten Momenten auch englisch) handelt, um Lesen und Malen, alles wunderbar beflügelnde Tätigkeiten, deren Ausführung jedoch recht statisch ist.

Flügge geworden bin ich in München, wo ich auch mein Dolmetscherdiplom für Spanisch erhielt und bei den Olympischen Spielen 1972 als Fremdsprachensekretärin mitwirkte. Dann war es mein Wunsch, meine Sprachkenntnisse in Spanien zu vervollständigen. 49 Jahre später bin ich immer noch dort, fasziniert vom Reichtum "meiner" drei Sprachen; Bayrisch zähle ich nicht, weil ich es bloß lückenhaft beherrsche und nur, wenn ich im richtigen Umfeld bin.

Übersetzungen (als Lebensunterhalt) und eigene Texte (zur Freude), immer bemüht, besser zu schreiben und auch zu malen, wenn mein Sohn mir Zeit liess, das hat mich durch die Jahrzehnte begleitet und tut es heute noch. Der Duft von Papier, blütenweiß oder bedruckt, von Terpentin und Ölfarben, lockt mich von weitem an; die Möglichkeiten der praktisch kostenlosen Digitalfotografie und der Online-Zugriff auf Lesestoff von nah und fern haben mich mit der Internetmanie ausgesöhnt und die Kommunikation mit Familie und Freunden erleichtert.

Ich besitze seit langem die spanische Staatsbürgerschaft und kann mich - wenn befragt - kaum entscheiden, was ich nun bin: halb und halb kommt nicht auf den Punkt, eigentlich fühlte ich mich noch immer als Europäerin, aber dieses Konzept hat in der kürzlichen Vergangenheit ja eine arge Berg- und Talfahrt erlebt.

Bald 50 Jahre lebe ich mit Blick aufs Meer an der Costa del Sol, aber meine tiefere Zuneigung gehört dem Binnenland, den Olivenbäumen und den Menschen, die mir unablässig und großzügig Stoff für Geschichten und Motive für Bilder schenken.

As a matter of fact I am sitting down to say my first hello to everybody in this presentation: normally my activities are sedentary ones, by chance as well as by choice. Writing and translating in German and Spanish (and, when inspired, in English as well), reading and painting, all and every single one of my activities is able to take your mind to soaring heights but require a rather static position to be carried out.

I first stretched my wings in Munich, my hometown, where I got my title as translater for Spanish and worked for three months at the Olympic Games 1972 as secretary with several languages. Afterwards I wanted to take my Spanish to higher levels and so I went to Spain. 49 years have gone by and I am still fascinated by the richness of "my" three languages. I do not count Bavarian, because there I have an atrocious accent and only speak it when I am in the right surroundings.

Translations (for a living) and texts of my own (for enjoyment), always craving to write better and to paint as well whenever my son left me time to do it, that was my best company and still is. The smell of paper, be it snowwhite or printed on, of trementine and oilpaints, attracts me from afar; the possibilities of digital photographie almost sin expenses and the online-access of reading material from everywhere taught me to appreciate the advantages of network. At the same time the new technologies made much easier the communication with family and friends.

Since many years I am a Spanish citizen but it is difficult for me - should you ask - to decide what I am nowadays: 50% from each country does not sound quite right; basically I always felt an European and continue doing so but lately this concept has suffered so many ups and downs, ins and outs, that I really do not know any longer for sure.

Soon it will be 50 years living at the Costa del Sol, the Mediterranean right in front of my windows. Nevertheless my heart belongs to the landside, the olivetrees and the people that generously give me themes for my stories and motives for my paintings. Thanks for reading!
