4 Master Keys to Weight Loss and a Lean Belly

First and above all, let me state that this is by no means an exhaustive list. However, if you can master these four key components of a weight loss program, you will be well on your way to a slimmer body.

Many people start a weight loss program with their basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the amount of energy (calories) your body uses at rest. The key is to raise your BMR so that you burn more calories throughout the day, every day. Increase the number of calories you burn, and you will lose more fat. Does that make sense? Adding muscle tissue is the most great way to boost your BMR.

Females often shudder at the prospect of gaining muscle because they are afraid of becoming "bulky." Take it easy, babe! It's a little more difficult than you think to gain that much muscle mass. Aside from that, a little muscle mass goes a long way toward achieving a leaner physique. And isn't this what you're looking for?

For weight loss, not just any exercise program will suffice. Simply burning calories is insufficient. The program should be designed to elicit specific hormonal responses that promote weight loss. I'll give you a hint...hours and hours of cardio is NOT the solution!

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Have you ever accomplished something great despite putting in sporadic effort? Unless you consider failure to be a great accomplishment, you most likely haven't. To get the results you want, you must exercise on a regular basis! It astounds me how many people put in so little effort to their exercise routine and then complain about not seeing results. Even the best-designed programs are considered ineffective if they are not continually accompanied.

This one should go without saying. You can't expect to get a leaner body if you keep eating unhealthy foods. This isn't to say you should throw out everything in your diet and replace it with "healthy" foods right away. Within a month, you'd be miserable and revert to your old habits. Instead, exercise restraint and avoid overindulging. Also, eliminate certain unhealthy foods from your diet while introducing healthier alternatives. The transition will be much easier to make and much easier to keep up.
