My opinion about the book “Ministerial Ethics”
Introduction/Theme
This book is purely spiritual and has a lot of wisdom for people in ministry. As I read through the pages, I noticed that there are some ethics in it which could be applied to normal relationships or official relationships even in our place of work.
Hence I decided to review it cos these ethics do not just cut across the church but can be practiced in other aspects of life.
Let’s look at some truths from the pages of this great book.
Key points from the chapters
Ministerial ethics simply talk about the different and acceptable ways in which people in ministry should behave and relate with others. There are so many expectations from outsiders on these and hence when these ethics are not well attended to, people tend to talk against those in spiritual authority.
- Some of the ethics expected includes: Leaders should carry themselves as the head and let their associates know this. There can be only one head. Anything with two heads is a freak. They should know how to carry their associates and members along and they should accept responsibilities of whatever goes wrong as the leaders.
They should treat their associates and members with respect by letting them know that they are important to them. Thy should praise their leaders publicly and correct them in secret as open criticism can be degrading and hinder them from Carrying out their duties effectively and etc.
- Ethics for associates includes; giving due honour and respect to the head. They must not be bad associates and should not speak against their leaders but rather should be a backbone to them also knowing that these leaders are humans and have weaknesses.
Their table should not be a table for complaints against their leaders but they should support them in every way possible and celebrate their liftings and position. They should not be rebels and insubordinate and etc.
- There are also ethics for hosting a minister and ethics for visiting ministers. Ethics for relationship with the opposite sex and ethics for politics and how to relate with politicals issues. These whole ethics are worth reading through. Please dig in and find more information for yourself.
My rating of the book
I was actually touched reading through this book. I’ve come to see that when we know the right things to do and have the heart to get it right, we would actually avoid a whole lot of mistakes and maybe our relationships with people would be better.
I give this a rating of 9/10. It was a concise yet all encompassing book on ethics.
Conclusion
Ignorance is the mother of mistakes. He that does not know and does not do will be beaten with few stripes, ignorance is not an excuse. Read and learn.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
I think I will have to get this book and gulp down every drop of nuggets and principles from this author. I've always loved Dag Heward Mills, I've read most of his books on leadership and I must say, they are all inspiring and full of wisdom. I know I won't get anything less if I go for this as well. Thanks for this week's spotlight.
