The boy was angry when he returned from school and discovered that her mother served okro soup on the the dining table instead of Atama soup as planned. He said to his mother "Mom, this wasn't our plan, you assured me that you'll prepare my best meal which is Atama soup, why this?". I'm quite sure you'll know her mother response and why she switched to another soup, Time changes so as price of things changes. The boy now understood😀.
Mention 5 things that was there in your country 10 years back that isn't here now? |
---|
Source public payphones☎️
10 years ago in Nigeria, public payphones was rampant. You won't walk pass any junction without seeing a kiosk of public payphones. Back then, few people had access to mobile phone while most people relied on public payphones as their only means of communication. Currently, the public payphones has disappeared into thin air because of the widespread adoption and importation of mobile phones.
Source printed newspaper
I can vividly remember 10 years ago when my dad and mom will be stopping at the traffic light everyday when they're taking me to school to buy a printed newspaper. Printed newspaper was the most popular source of information and trending news. Who can remember Concord newspaper, Thepulse, guardian and the likes of them?. My parents choosed Concord as the best and reliable source as at then to stay informed. Today's digital world makes it difficult for you to see a vendor at the traffic light as usual, newspaper is no more common.
Source Film camera
It's brown and black in colour, rapped on a round and gold plated object, it's called film camera. 10 years ago, film camera was consistently used by the photographers and movie makers. Even the professionals do use this for film production. Today, digital photography technology has taken that space, no more film camera, we now have high quality camera like canon and smartphone for photography and videography.
Source Printed map
I remember watching movies most especially Korean's, where travellers will be using printed map for navigation. People are travelling everyday and I've not heard that they're using printed map for their trip planning or for navigation. That doesn't exist anymore. Search with the word M on your applications and you'll see that Google map has replaced printed map.
Source Coin
I touched them when i was young, so cold and shinny, it's coin. 10 years ago i went to my grandparents place and saw a coin. It was used in buying and selling just as we use hard currency now. It's gone and no coming back. The printed currency has taken over the use of coin in Nigeria.
Is the value of currency used in your country appreciating or depreciating? |
---|
It's depreciating. There's this adage our people say "He who spits saliva in the air while the breeze blow, must surely get a touch of that same saliva back". Our currency is depreciating because of the government policies and inflation. Most of things we find here in Nigeria are imported and bought using another currency which is dollar. When such transaction takes place, what do you think will happen to Naira currency? It'll depreciate off course.
Deliberate on the prices of 5 commodities in your country 10 years back and now. |
---|
Commodities | Prices 10 years back | Prices now |
---|---|---|
Garri | 1 cup 20 naira | 1 cup 200 naira |
Pure water | 1 sachet 10 naira | 1 sachet 30 naira |
Rice | 1 cup 30 naira | 1 cup 300 naira |
Beans | 1 cup 50 naira | 1 cup 300 naira |
A tuber of yam | 5,000 naira | 30,000 naira |
Has these changes affected you? If yes, how. If no, tell us your secrets |
---|
Even a wealthy man will be affected with this changes because he'll need to work harder else, he won't be able to live a simple and easy life as he lived. If a wealthy man will be affected with this changes, how about the poor me?. Just take a look at garri, I can vividly remember when i bought garri 1 cup 20 naira. We find it dificult to finish 200 naira garri in our family daily. What's happening now? 200 Naira garri which is now 1 cup won't fill half of my stomach talkless of being satisfied with that quantity.
The changes indeed has affected me because i don't get what i crave for. Remember the boy i talked about earlier, he was craving for Atama soup but he got okro soup, why? His mother couldn't afford Atama soup ingredients because of the changes in price of commodities. The same way that young boy was affected by the changes, it also affects me.
You turn a patient dog when what you're craving for can't be afforded.....
My parents do say this to me and that's exactly the kind of country we're living in.
