Reporting event

There's an ongoing road construction around my area, and I published a post about it last week on "neighborhood reporting even around us." I promised to keep you all posted on the project, so as promised, I'm here to share the latest update on the construction site.

So today, I went to the construction site to check what's new, and I saw many improvements since the last time I went there, so in this article, I will be updating you all about the latest improvements in the site today, there was a roadside concrete gutter.

A concrete gutter is a channel, that carries away rainwater and other liquids. Gutters are typically found along roadsides, sidewalks, and buildings to help manage/control water flow and prevent erosion or flooding.

That is why on most roads, depending on the location, there are usually gutters by the side to prevent the road from erosion precisely.

Materials needed to build a concrete gutter:

Main Materials

1. Cement: Any type of hydraulic cement that the workers are using (Dangote cement).
2. Sand: Fine aggregate sand, free of debris and organic matter.
3. Gravel: Coarse aggregate gravel, 3/4 inch or 19 mm in diameter.
4. Water: For mixing concrete.
5. Concrete reinforcement: Steel rebar or fiber mesh for added strength.

Formwork Materials

1. Wooden planks: For creating the gutter shape and holding the concrete in place.
2. Plywood: For creating a smooth surface finish.

Finishing Materials

1. Concrete finishing tools: Uses trowels, floats, and edgers to smooth the surface.
2. Curing compound: To prevent moisture loss.
3. Sealant: Optional.

Safety Equipment

1. Hard hat: For protecting the head.
2. Safety glasses: help protect the eyes from debris and chemical splashes.
3. Gloves: For protecting the hands.
4. Steel-toed boots: For protecting the feet.

I didn't have much time to ask and get more information from them on how to build the concrete gutter using the given materials because the men were at work, so without taking much of their time, they could only provide me with the needed materials.
