Nigerian Pear

I went to the market today and I decided to buy this Nigerian pears.

Pear is a delicious fruit, it's originates from Nigeria and other western part of Africa.
Nigerian pear is scientifically known as Dacryodes Edulis.
In some part of South South it is called eben and in southeastern part it is called Ube. It is super delicious.

It's a seasonal fruit and can be eaten on a regular basis when it season arrives.

Nigerian pear doesn't demand recipe and and is very easy to prepare.

This delicious fruit can be prepared and eaten in three different ways.

  1. Roasted
  2. Cooked
  3. It can also be eaten raw.
    Cooked - boil hot water and then place the pears inside the hot water for few minutes then
    the fleshy, softened pulp is melted and ready for consumption.

To eat it raw - wash the pear just as you wash every other fruit and is ready for eating.
Nigerian pear can also be roasted. Many in Nigeria prefer to eat a roasted pear with roasted corn.

Interestingly, we can enjoy pear by substituting the fleshy pulp for butter or margarine to eat bread.

You can also eat Nigerian pear with boiled yam, boiled plantain, and roasted yam.

Nigerian pears has some natural contents and there are;

  1. Carbohydrate

  2. Fix oil

  3. Crude fibre

  4. Protein

  5. Calcium

  6. Sodium

Nigerian Pears also contain a lot of fatty acids like palmitic acids, oleic acids, and linoleic acids.

There are health benefits of eating Nigerian Pears.

  1. It's nourishes the skin and combats diseases.

  2. It's gives you a glowing, younger-looking skin while combating free radicals on your skin.

Also contains moderate amounts of sodium, potassium, magnesium calcium, and phosphorus.

Additionally, a wide variety of chemical compounds such as terpenes, flavonoids, oxalates, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins have been isolated from Nigerian pear.

Nigerian Pear and Weight Loss

Nigerian pear is not fattening, they contain healthy lipids and good cholesterol. The calories in Nigerian pear is also moderate. Although, the fat content in this fruit is a lot higher when compared to fruits like apple, guava, and pawpaw, pear cannot make you fat if you eat it moderately.
