Today I am contributing to the Steem4Nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 68 with the topic what is the best way to handle stress? In this post, I’ going to discuss what in my view makes for healthy stress management; including useful tips and practices, and what I personally do to enhance the quality of life.

Stress according to me is thus when the body and the mind feels some kind of pressure, challenge or demand. It arises from normal living activities, crisis situations or interpersonal issues or may be a result of a clash of emotions. Whereas mild stress may have positive effects on getting things done, stress that has not been managed takes a toll on our health.

So stress is personal, I think, to some extent — what one person considers stressful, another doesn't feel as stressed. You have to feel like you’re carrying a weight, some can carry it better than others, some feel burdened sooner. Stress is most always a mental clutter that clouds judgment and drains energy for me. But I also feel like there’s a lesson here to learn about resilience and balance, as learning to manage stress can help make us smarter and more aware.

To my mind, it is much more efficient to fight stress with the help of religious and spiritual practices. As much as may be possible, I sometimes close my eyes and recite several surahs to the Lord with all my strength. This link to almighty Allah has incredible solace and alleviation informing me that Allah is consistently accessible to direct and uphold me.

However, I found prayer as being very useful next to meditation. The idea of getting a few minutes to close my eyes and catch my breath helps to clear my head and bring me back to stability. Applying all those mentioned above aid me to relieve stress in a manner that can be perceived as both spiritually fulfilling and cognitively centripetal. The best ways that I think can help to deal with stress for me is to put trust in Allah and nurturing mindfulness.

Yes I have been stressed many times for different reasons but one time I was admitted in the hospital to deliver my baby. This was a combined feeling of several feelings such as pressure and anxiety in that process but happiness knowing that my baby was with me most of the times after these months.
Beside That I used only words of almighty Allah to distract myself from the tension. I began to pray to Allah reciting surah and doing it with all my soul, to help me get through a situation and to give me strength to face it. Dedication and concentration on almighty Allah made me concentrate my mind and strengthen to pass through the hardship part. To me, prayer forms the best strategy for dealing with stress, even during the worst of times because it works through faith.

As for me, I always think that stress is incapable of solving any problem of life rather it complicates things. Stress hampers our performance, saps out strength and draws a black picture over our decision-making ability. Every day we experience some hurdles but allowing stress to overwhelm us is not healthy because they come with other stiff emotional and physical complications.

I think the best ways to tackle any type of problem is to first stay relaxed, get a clear head and attack the particular difficulty with some persistence. Well, it is normal to get stressed tense when things become hard I believe that instead of becoming tense when things become hard one should rather channel that energy by looking for solutions, prayer, or even consulting. It’s the stress that is part of our life, but it doesn’t have to be part of the solution, it’s how we cope with stress that defines the results.

What advise can you give to someone that is under stress right now.

If someone is under stress right now, my suggestion would be to take sometime, close their eyes and breathe. Stress may be intense in the moment, but you have to keep telling yourself that this phase shall pass and you have all it takes to conquer this phase.

First, attempt to determine the source of stress and concentrate on that which one might handle. One way of dealing with this is by demystifying the issue by completing it in doable steps which will allow for mitigation of an overwhelming feeling. Second, pray or meditate – talking to Almighty or spending five minutes in stillness can often relieve immense amounts of stress.

I would also recommend speaking to somebody and that is to a friend one trusts. Telling someone how you feel can release some pressure off of you and it helps you see things from a different point of view. Last but not least, leave it to time – have a walk, take a break, do something that you like, and that will make you calm and collected.

Please bear in mind, stress is always with us since it is inevitable, but it is not in you. Patients should try to have faith in Almighty, try to walk through all this one day at a time, and believe that too shall pass.
