INTRODUCTION

Hello steemians! Welcome everyone to the contest that seeks make us keep watch and report events happening in our neighborhood. Day-in, day-out there are a lot of events that happens around us and go unreported. Thanks to @xkool24 for initiating this idea of bringing up events that happens around us here. The reports could either save lives, prevent loss or damage, take precaution or to stay safe.

Today, I'm reporting a tragic event that happened in the FCT Abuja, which has taken seven lives.

MAIN STORY

A building located at the airport road in the federal capital territory Abuja, collapsed and killed seven people. The building was said to have been marked for demolition as a result of the inauthenticity of the property documents.

The incident occurred when some people went right there to carry out scavenging of the building materials from the demolished building by the federal capital development authority. In the course of their activities, the remaining part of the building that was not totally demolished cracked down to kill seven persons. Another two surviving persons from the collapsed building were said to have been rushed to the hospital for them to receive treatment.

At the time of the incident, the number people in the building was yet unknown, and so the FCT authority said they were on ground for the rescue operations.

Why would people take such a risk?

It is becoming a norm for people to embark in risky acts even when it is obvious that their lives would be put on the line. People should not be risking their lives in such conditions . People should learn to stay away from this kind of situations when they arise. Tragedies could been avoided if they had stayed away from getting involved in the scavenging.

This act of scavenging is becoming worrisome. From this very incident, there is the need to urgently address the activities of scavengers by way of regulation. Lives are lost, properties are as well, lost.

My friend, it's sad to see things like this happen on daily basis and yet people are paying deaf ears towards it. What exactly would someone be doing in a half demolished building? For as much as they died in such a gruesome manner, it is also not applaudable on the government part to let things as such happen.

I think personally the government should at least make a by-law that will regulate the demolishing of buildings because this same thing happened to someone closed to me and I felt her death, I hope one day people will realise how deadly it is to near these cracky walls.

Yes you are right. Enabling laws should be put in place to checkmate both demolishing of building structures and the scavenging business.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
