5 lives lost and properties lost as petrol tanker explodes in Agbor, Delta state.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome once again steemians! At every seconds, every minuites, every hour and every day, there are fortunate events that occur which brings joy and happiness to us. There are also unfortunate events that occurs which creates tension in the society and make people to sad.

On the side of the unfortunate incidences, events that could make people sad or create tension in the society include the loss of lives, properties or when there is insecurity.

For me, “My neighborhood watch” as normally hosted here, is more than just reporting an event wether good or bad. It is an avenue created here, for us to be at alert any moment and be more concious of our envoronment.

How it occured

It was a sad sunday afternoon in Ika, a community in agbor delta state, as a petrol tanker exploded in that part of the state. An eye witness report has it that about 5 persons lost their lives and properties woth millions of naira were razed down by the flames of the petrol.
The petrol tanker is said to have lost control and now went into flames that left few persons dead nearby properties damaged.

The deputy governor, Mr. Monday Onyeme later arrived at the site of the incidencce the following day. He was led around the scene to ascertain the stock and level damages arising from the incidence. He promised that the government would take care of the victims receiving treament in the hospital.

The deputy governor also said that government would render support to those whose businesses were affected by the incidence.
He visited the family One of the victims of this unfortunate incidence identified as Deborah Adomgbor to console them.

How would petrol tanker explosion incidences be prevented?

Petrol tanker explosion is a reoccurence incidence that little or nothing has been done to prevent it. The damages it has caused has led to loss of so many lives and properties. Yet, it is unfortunate that no efforts are made to stop it from happening. The only that done would is what is known as "“damage control”.* Which is a situation where something goes wrong and little is done to prevent occurence and reoccurrence. This iaction is supposed to be the other way round. It should be “ontrol damage”. This term implies that preventive measures should be put in place before waiting for an occurence.

Now for the safety of lives and properties, I think the followiing preventive measures should be put in place:

• The drivers of all forms of explosive chemicals should be subjected to cinical examination to ascertain their health status including their brains.

• All inflamable chemical tankers should be properly examined before plying the roads. For example, the braks should checked to be in proper working condition.

• Alll infllamable chemical fillingstations shoud not be seen built around residential buildings or commercial areas.

• There should be seperate highways for conveyance of inflamable chemicals like the petrol.

• All inflamable chemical tankers and their respective stations should be duely insured.

Finally, as my nephew was living some miles away from the ugly scene, we went close to the to the place and I felt really sad.
