Hello good evening all , I’m glad to write a post on this community. This is my first time writing in the steem4nigeria community. I will be posting my preparation for the upcoming UTME . Today I have been solving some question on physics ,on the topic machines . I want to analyze more on that topic, beginning from the definition of machines , types of machines , term used in machines and some related problems. Before we go into the topic of the day , your calculator should be handy and if you have challenges solving mathematical question you should be at ease because I will be at your aid .
MACHINES
Definition of machines
Machines are instruments for doing difficult task ,it could also be defined as any device that makes difficult task easy to perform.
Types of machines
There are different types of machines these include;
- Levers
- pulleys
- Inclined plane
- screw-jack
- wheel and axle
- wheel gear
Terminologies
- Mechanical Advantage:This refer to as the ratio of load to effort.
- Load : This is the amount of substance,
- Effort :This is the force applied to lift a load .
- Efficiency :This is the ratio of the useful work output to the total input energy.
- Velocity ratio : This is the ratio of the distance distance moved by effort per unit time and the effort to the distance moved per unit time .
The velocity ratio of each machine varies. For example ,in a type of machine called the pulley system the velocity ratio of that machine is determine through the number of pulleys in the system.
In solving a problem related to machines mechanic advantage is usually abbreviated M.A , velocity ratio V.R while efficiency is E.
Let’s take our first example ;
**A machine whose efficiency is 60% has a velocity ratio of 5 .If a force of 500N is applied to a lift load p,what is the magnitude of p.
Note that the magnitude of p is the load.
To solve
M.A =l/e , making l the subject of formula, l will now be equals to
l= M.A *e
