Greetings to my fellow steemian in this community. I hope we are all doing great. Today I present my entry on this wonderful topic organized by our dear moderator @manuelhooks.
Makeup is an artificial application of substances to the skin to improve it's appearance which could be in a form of a cream, powder, gel, artificial colouration or writings on the skin etc.
Yes we have makeup item that is part of my culture. In the Ibibio ethnic group, we make use of an item called "TIDO". traditionally in our language, Its usually worn by all especially by young children on the eyelid which makes them look more beautiful/handsome. Tido always takes a solid shape so in other to be applied it has to be grinded into a powder form then it's ready to be used.
Laali in Hausa .Its a form of tattoo. Its non permanent. it is gotten from grinding henna leafs into paste. Its the aspect of makeup that is borrowed from another country. Laali is always drawn either on the legs or hands. It tends to have a flowery design when imprinted on the skin. It always looks good. Others are the artificial eye, eyes lashes, lipstick and nails.
Yes there are makeup and dresses for specific events.
✅If one is going for a formal event like a marriage ceremony, commissioning event, one needs to wear a formal dress like a suit or a corporate gown. A nude makeup is to be worn.
✅If one is going for an informal event or outing like picnic, a bar seat-out, one can put on a casual wear like mufti, T-Shirt and trouser, shimmy gown, crop tops and jeans etc. in such setting, one can wear a nude makeup.
✅If one is going for a cultural event like carnival, one needs to wear a traditional clothe depending on the tribe. Then the person has to do a traditional makeup that is heavy which mostly has shining/bright colours.
✅If one is going for a red carpet event or a contest event, a formal dress nicely designed is to be worn, then a heavy makeup that is catchy is to be done.
Yes, both men and women uses makeup. Well,on the aspect of who uses more,it depends on each genders personality. But being specific, in a general setting, women tends to make use of makeup/cosmetic the more reason being that women are meant to be highly attractive than men.
I wouldn't have any issue if my spouse makes use of makeup. Making an appropriate makeup like such as power, cream, body spray will definitely make him more attractive to me.
Light Makeup is a kind of makeup that is nude. The makeup that is applied just a little to the face to enhance beauty. A person with a light makeup can be easily recognize.
This type of makeup is a transformation makeup. It's a makeup that is done mostly on people that have tribal marks, spots, wrinkles, elderly people etc. Some people who doesn't have this things can equally do it on their face but they will not be easily recognized.
Sure, am aware that some people appreciate makeup on other people but restrict their spouse from using it. I think the reason is based on individual because most people likes their spouse natural face, they see beauty in them more than when they makeup. Or maybe their spouse make an heavy makeup that changes the Outlook of the face and that made the other spouse to restrict him/her. Or it could be the spouse is afraid of the side effects on the makeup which could results in skin cancer, that is why the spouse restrict another from using makeup.
Yes since it is something that is applied to the body, it is a part of a makeup. Remember in my definition of makeup above, I started as an artificial application of substance applied to the body, so a tattoo is a part of a makeup. Some people do this to beautify themselves either having their names, their favorite artists, image of what they like in their skin etc.
Makeup and cosmetics are good to be used when applying it in a moderate way, it will bring out the beauty more but when it is obvious, you become a laughing stock and a total strange being.
Thanks for reading to the end, I invite @joymm, @lillyjermiah and @patudoh.
The picte you used in illustrating heavy makeup is really funny... I mean that's a guy, what on Earth is he trying to do...lol.

Such a nice write up. I agree with your opinion on what a light and heavy make up is. Indeed have make up usually transform the individual to look like someone else

I love your entry!
You talked about TIDO an ibibio cultural cosmetics/ makeup I was wishing to see what it looks like through a picture so we can identify it anywhere.
I know make up consist on any substance that is applied to the body but I hope the facial makeup is not inclusive to this statement you made?
Best regards
