Greetings dear friends . Hope you are all doing well and enjoying Steemit engagement challange . Today I am writing homework task for steem4Nigeria which is about Favourite Recipe in your country.
What is that Special recipe peculiar to your country? It could be special drinks, desserts, or any other delicacy.
I bekieve our country is rich as for recipe or other delicacies are concerned. The subject of this topic seeks description or promotion of a recipe that is favourite in our country. Our country is so diverse that each state or region has something special to provide to the world. We are so diverse that foods in the North are altogether different from those in the south. For example, in Northern India, we have the state of Jammu and Kashmir and we have a favourite recipe called Kashmiri wazawan. Similarly, south India has masala dosa, meen murringakka curry, chicken stew with appams and many more.
For the sake of this task, I have choosen a a very famous recipe that exists throughout India and that is DAL chawal. Dal means Lentil and Chawal means Rice. It is sometimes also known as DAL BHAT where Bhat means boiled Rice.
sources
Daal chawal is not only famous in India but it is found everywhere in the Indian subcontinent. It is so famous that a romantic drama made in Pakistan has been named Dal Chawal.
Is there any history attached to it? Explain.
Dal chawal is ubiquitous in the Indian subcontinent because both the components of this recipe, dal and chawal are widely grown in this continent for multiple reasons. Dal or Pulses are of multiple types and grown in both Kharif and Rabi seasons.
Moreover, rice being a staple food is also - cultivated. Besides its cultivation, it is a sort of whole meal that is offered at a cheaper price throughout India. One serving of Dal Chawal costs about 1$.
Another reason for the fame of dal chawal is that India has about 32- 40% of a pure vegetarian population and when it comes to vegetables, Indians cannot forget pulses.
Do you think you can do without taking them for some time?
My food habits are such that I neither develop an aversion nor I develop a craving for any food. I mean to say that, if I take any food for a long time, I don't develop eversion for that food. Similarly, if I don't take any food for months, I don't develop a craving for that food other.
How is it prepared? Show us the steps required for its preparation or you can buy from a restaurant and promote the business.
Before preparing DAL CHAWAL, let's mention the ingredients :
- DAL ( Any one of 5 major pulses )
- Oil, salt, cumin, clove, garlic.
- Asafetida , chillies
- Water.
- Mustard seeds, mint.
Stepwise preparation
Dal being dry pulse needs to be soaked in cold water for half an hour.
Boil the Dal and add a teaspoon of oft so that salt enters into the dal.
Heat oil in a frying pan till appears to flow like water . Add black mustard seed and garlic and cumin. So that it is like a spicy paste. Add asafetida and cool it down. Then add chillies, turmeric and ½ teaspoon salt and cilantro.
The above pan is all that has given DAL its name and fame. So mix the above contents with Dal and boil the whole mixture of contents and stir to mix completely so that the ents mix as one
- Prepare rice as usual and use the above prepared DAL with it and enjoy the taste of DAL Chawal.
What are your recommendations for others about this food
My recommendation is that, for those who haven't taken this food earlier, you should taste this food once. I would especially recommend adding butter to the pulse and spices as well. I am sure, you are gonna like this recipe well
Dal chawal, the name looks and sounds Arabic though. Thanks for presenting a publication about your peculiar delicacy in your country
Greetings and best of luck
