My Neighborhood Watch #55 - Reporting Events Around us

WHERE IS OUR VOICE?

Wow...guys it's another day, roll up your sleeves, put on your's boot, let's get back our voices.

My yesterday reminded me of the different attitudes of government towards the fulfillment of their promises. In my country, most politicians are very eloquent, they could easily win over the minds of their the people and these they do using different baits.

Good road network is what many underdeveloped and developing countries are battling with and politicians aspiring for any political office are always quick to promise the occupants of every community they visit that they would institute a remarkable project in their community if given an opportunity but many of them do otherwise when they assume office.

I and my friend had a stroll on this particular few kilometers road yesterday that has been under construction for almost two(2) years. The road in an ideal condition should have gotten to 90% completion but like some people would say"...they are just playing politics with the project..." because it's not even up to 50% complete.

This road project with an underground drainage system was awarded during the second tenure of the previous administration in my state which lasted for four(4) years.The agender of that administration was to industrialize the state which wasn't really achieved as proposed by that administration judging from my own observation.

This road links the capital of my state to a neighbouring state through which goods could be transported in and outside the state. Most times, it baffles me if the company handling the construction really have what it takes to deliver the job because they work with limited human power and sophisticated equipment.

They were using just one excavator, motor grader, wheel loader, industrial tractor, drum roller, and a very few dump trucks. I guess the dump trucks were not up to five(5). I can't tell if all this is to save cost but the inhabitants of this community are unhappy with the delay in the delivery of the road.

This road has slowed down many businesses as many shops could no longer be accessed with ease and most times the road is been blocked preventing motorists from employing the road giving rise to the hike in transport fares as motorists have to used other distant routes.

The contractors don't show up every working days. Is it that they have not been fully mobilized or they are out of resources? Well, many people do say that some of this dubious politicians award contracts to some companies without minding what happens thereafter for reasons best known to them.

So, today I met some workers trying to excavate without the used of any powered machine, I suppose they are trying to link the gutters on both sides of the road into the underground drainage system; shouldn't this be done using a powered machine to serve stress and time.

I just pray that this road would completed and put to use before this year runs out to resuscitate the compatriot spirit of the people.
