"Not All Heroes Wear Capes" - Anonymous...

This quote is simple but the message conveyed is profound.
Have you ever wondered who a hero is? Many people would definitely say that heroes are those with extraordinary abilities like Superman or Batman. But does being a hero requires the possession of superpowers? Or is it something else?

Some may say that a hero is anybody who stands up for what is right, no matter the length. Other may say that a hero is a someone who helps others, even when it's inconvenient or difficult.

So who is a hero? It may not be as simple as we think... Let's find out together!!

What do you understand by this word "Hero"

A "hero" is simply someone who is admired for their selfless acts, courage and bravery in the face of hard times. Heroes don't need to have superpowers or special ability before that can be seen as one. A hero don't need to be perfect, he/she just need to be willing to stand for what is right, even when it is challenging.

A hero can be anyone from a teacher who inspires their students to reach their full potential, a soldier who risk their life to protect others, a human rights activists who stands for the oppressed and more. Heroes are often painted as having superhuman qualities, but in reality, they are just normal people who have done remarkable things.

What do you think makes someone a hero, whether they wear cape or not?

First of all, according to Wikipedia, "a cape is a clothing accessory or a sleeveless outer garment that shades the wearer's back, arm, chest and connects at the neck " wikipedia

In fiction, the cape is a popular cloth for superheroes like the superman, Batman and the rest of them. In my own opinion, what makes a person a hero is not their external status or bodily appearance but their inner qualities and selfless actions. A hero is a person who is compassionate, determined, selfless and courageous to do the thing which is right even when it is difficult. There may be no possession of superpowers or special abilities but they have an inner drive/determination to make a difference in the world, no matter how big or small the impact may become.

How can we encourage more act of heroism in our communities?

We can encourage the acts of heroism in our communities by few different ways.

  • One of them is to celebrate and recognize the people who have done and are doing heroic things. Most importantly to the ones who are alive, we should celebrate their bravery, courage, compassion and selflessness. When we celebrate and recognize these people, it means that their actions matters and can make a difference.

  • Another way I see that can help encourage heroic acts in our communities is by providing opportunities for people to get involved in their communities. Whether it is through volunteering to do something needed and of benefit to the public or participating in community events. This can also help people to see the impact they can have on the lives of others.

Do you believe that anyone has the potential to be a hero? Why or why not?

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness - William Shakespeare".

I strongly believe that anyone has the potential to be a hero. The quote above really captures the idea that anyone can be a hero no matter their circumstances. So it's not just about what you're born with or given, it is simply about what you do with your life and the kind of choices you make. If someone has the determination to help others, they have the potential to become a hero even without a cape.

If you could be a hero without a cape, what positive change would you make?

If I could be a hero without a cape, I would want to work towards making this world a more equal and unbiased place for everyone to live in. I would strive to reduce the high rate of poverty, create access to good healthcare, improve education and create maximum opportunities for everyone to have a chance to succeed. What I want more is about giving everyone equal chance to reach their full potential.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, we have explored the idea of what makes a hero with or without a cape, how to encourage heroic acts in our communities and what kind of positive change we could make in the world if we were able to be a hero without a cape. We have clearly seen that no matter the circumstances or background of anybody, he or she can be a hero and that all it takes is the choice/decision to make a difference.
