Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria's Call Obey. To serve our fatherland. With love and strength and faith. The labor of our heroes past, shall never be in vain. To serve with heart and might. One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity...
These are the words of the Nigerian national anthem. To me these words are more than just mere lyrics. It holds and captures the pride, dignity, dreams and hope of its people. Nigeria a nation filled with hope, a land of promise, people bounded with a spirit of unity and faith, a country where the guiding principle is freedom peace and unity.
We are highly diversified, rich with natural beauty and cultural heritage, tradition, beautiful landscape, natural resources and more.
Never taken into consideration the critics and names received due to our flaws and challenges we've always found the way to stand strong with resilience and hope.
Welcome to my blog and join me as I unravel the greatness as well as the flaws of NIGERIA ....
The history of Nigeria is a complex one, covering a long space of time and events. I will try to break it down into few key point to capture everything.
Nigeria is a country located in the western part of the African continent.
The name, Nigeria was said to have originated from the Niger river which runs through the country. Gone through historical records, the Portuguese were the first to make actual use of the name in reference to the area where the river was found in the 16th Century. The names was officially declared by the wife of the British colonial master Sir Frederick Lugard.
Civilization came through the activities of the indigenous tribes Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. Trades were carried out in and out of the country which aided the presence of foreigners.
Fast forward to the late 1800s, the country was colonized by Britain establishing the colony of Nigeria in 1914. During this period changes occurred which included the abolishment of slavery and initiation of Christianity.
Nigeria gained independence on the 1st of October 1960 and became a republic in 1963. Since then, the country has experienced and been through a lot of challenges including corruption, military rule, civil war and political insecurity...
Nigeria is unique for many reasons.
- Rich Cultural Diversity: Nigeria has a rich and diverse culture. These includes the varieties of ethnic groups, languages and tradition. We have over 500 different languages and over 250 ethnic groups.
- Natural Resources: We are indeed blessed with nature. Natural resources including gas, oil and other minerals which has helped the country over time grow economically in the whole of Africa.
- Resilience and Creativity: Nigeria is filled with highly vibrant and though people who has found a way to overcome all challenges. Nigeria also has a fast growing creative industry with film, music and fashion which has attained international respect.
This question is a very technical question. But my answer is a NO
Reasons
Many Nigerians will not think twice to leave this country when the slightest opportunity arrives. This is due to the problems faced here.
For me, I won't leave Nigeria to settle elsewhere even if the opportunity comes with full support unless it is for vacation, work, education.
Nigeria has many things which will make me not to leave which includes
• The strong sense of unity, community and family valuee.
• The beauty of nature
• The special delicacies 😊😋
• Sense of fashion, art , music and more.
Although people may like to counter my choice, bringing up the topic of unemployment but I will gladly say that my skills will help sustain me in Nigeria
- Heath Care: While there are numerous health care facilities around the country, they're not well equiped, so the health care system needs amendment so than everyone can have access to quality care without fear of death or spending money to fly out.
- Infrastructure: Many bridges and roads in the country need improvements, to provide a good transportation system and experience which will reduce the rate of accidents. Also investments needs to made on the transportation sector.
- Education: Particularly in the rural areas education needs to be improved by investments in building of schools and availability of learning materials.
- Security: The the rate of insecurity in the country is currently alarming with events such as kidnapping banditry and armed robbery. Also with investment in the security system particularly to security agencies I believe the security will be improved.
- Politics: We've been experiencing bad leadership for the past years, if the judiciary and legislative arm of government do their job well, we will overcome the plague of corruption and see improvement in the above areas when we experience good leadership..
I believe by improving all these areas, Nigeria could eventually become a better place to live..
In Conclusion, I am very proud to call Nigeria my home and be called a Nigerian. While it is a country which is not perfect and have it flaws, it has greatness inside. The rich history, strong people and culture, arts, beautiful landscape and diversity is worth celebrating. I sincerely believe that with time and effort, Nigeria can become great again...
