My habits and me

Introduction

My mother will wake up early every morning to do house chores, she won't bother to call any of us. By the time we were awake, we will meet the whole house very clean and well arranged. Our clothes were washed and neatly spread outside, and our water drums would be filled, and sometimes she'd prepare food. This was after she would have gone to her church's morning prayer and was back.

Also, I have seen my father brushing his teeth whenever he eats anything. Ever since I was born, I've seen him like that. He may not brush if he eats outside, but the moment he is back, he must brush. And I would wonder how long it took him to inculcate such habits. He does that till date.

What is your opinion on habits

Habits are those lifestyles we do more often and regularly that become part of our lives and most times are difficult to change because of being used to them.

In my opinion, habits can be exhibited through our actions, thoughts, our belief systems etc. My mother used to wake up very early in the morning, maybe 4am, to do her daily routines. And my dad brushes his teeth as though his life ends there.

That's part of their lives, because they have learnt these habits which have become part of their lifestyles overtime. Till today, my mother still wakes up early doing her chores. Even when she visits my house, she wakes up very early looking for chores which I don't usually have any for her.

Are there habits you have that people around you have complained about? Mention them.

Yes, we all have habits that people may not like. For me:

  • I have the habit of putting my shoes outside whenever I'm back from work, my husband will always take them inside the house. My mother used to do that.

  • I'll cook for everyone to eat, and I'll end up not eating any. Even from when I was at my father's house.

  • I wake up to press my phone immediately after morning meditation. My husband complains about that too much.

  • Waking up from bed very late on none working days. It is so bad that I'll prepare breakfast for my family late.

What are the strongest habits that has helped you over the years?

Over the years, self-reliance has been one of my strongest habits. I tend to depend on myself rather than depend on or be a burden to others. I try as much as possible to help myself instead of depending on people. And it's also my habit to try things out for myself. Sometimes, I am baffled about how inquisitive I can be sometimes. But in the long run, I see these as strength because these have helped me in more difficult times than I thought.

Do you think habits can be learnt or do you think all the habits we have came from our parents as a result of birth?

Habits are learnt if you ask me. We develop habits as a result of what we see, hear and practice. They become part of us overtime.

For a child to inculcate reading habits, he/she must be taught. Habits such as personal hygiene, eating habits, reading habits, sleeping habits, being early to events, speaking, etc require teaching especially for children.

For example, I taught my children never to eat any food in the morning without brushing their teeth. It is part of their lives now. Some people just feel it's nothing because they are just mere children.

So habits are mostly taught/learnt rather than inhabited. That's because people copy what they see, hear and try to do it, sometimes unintentionally.

Wow.. your mum is a strong woman to do all that without waking you guys up. For your dad's brushing after every meal is a virtue I like it.
It's good the way you pass down good habits to your kids Weldon
Best of luck.

Thank you for the review. I truly appreciate the heartwarming comment and encouraging words.

I would have loved to be your mother's daughter, so that when I wake up from bed everything has been done and put in place for me...🤣🤣🤣

My own mother will wake you up by 5am with a sprinkle of water on your face or even pouring it on your body, that's because knows quite well that, if she call us by name or tap on us to wake up we won't even answer her, so the best method she uses to conquer us is by using water to sprinkled on us.😂

My father's habit is sometime funny to me, that old man uses toothpick in his teeth after eating anything to the point of even using toothpick after drinking water and when we asked him, Daddy why are you using toothpick after drinking water, he will tell you that, God created him well but forgot to give him good set of teeth, that's why anything he eat get stock in his teeth even with water too...🙆.

Thanks for the invite I'll try and drop an entry too because is like my own habit is just too much self.

Thank you for the comment my friend. Honestly, we still talk about my mother's workaholic life with my siblings and sometimes laugh over it. I think I also learn that from her. I will wake up and do my house chores without waking my brother who lives with me. Mine is, whenever he's awake, he will do his work.

I'll be glad to read your entry.

💕🥰

Habits can be corrected with time. My wife will always want the light off while I want it on because of my reading habit just to see where my books are and read at night and I am correcting that gradually and she now understand.

My dear some habits can break marriage especially when you don't have a partner that is friendly and understandable.
The best is when one identify the habit that he or she has and that will be battle with time.
Good luck

You're right, some habits if not well managed can destroy the person exhibiting it, also, the part of adjustment or change is very possible.

I appreciate your valuable comment.
