Gone are the days

Thank you to Steem for Nigeria for organizing this flashback contest. It will help us Remember the good old days, not long age, only ten years back. Winding back 10 years takes us to the year 2014, and from 2014 till now, many things have changed.

Mention 5 things that was there in your country 10 years back that isn't here now?

💸 Standing in a long queue at the bank
In the year 2014 and the years before it, going to the bank was a days project. A person will have to go early and pick a number before the bank is open because there is going to be a very long line of people waiting to be attended to. This line was removed by the decentralization of banking activities to small businesses locally called POS services

💿 Movie and Rental shops
Ten years ago we still had a business where you can buy movies on DVD, and it was possible to rent such movies at a cheeper rate. This business soon started to fail when UTube and other movie sites became popular and people got movies on flashdrive and downloads. This has resulted in the DVD players becoming obsolete.

📜 Paper invitation
Inviting people to a wedding or other things needed an invitation card printed on hard card to invite people to come. Sending digital copies on WhatsApp and Facebook has become the new normal.

📱Java button phones
We still had plenty of java button phones by 2014, the market was taken over by android and window phones. Today the android are in the hands of the people.

🍶 Goko Cleanser
A herbal potion that took the market like wildfire, with aggressive marketing and sponsorship. The herbal remedy claimed to treat a lot of health issues. The product was flooded with a lot of fake copy resulting in many insident of poisoning. The product gradually got lost and it's not so available today.

Is the value of currency used in your country appreciating or depreciating?

The value of the Nigerian currency (Naira) had been depreciating from ten years ago till now. The rate of depreciation has been slow and steady but in the pass few months, we have experienced a very sharp rate of depreciation

Deliberate on the prices of 5 commodities in your country 10 years back and now.

As indicated on the screenshot above, most of the price change happened in the pass 5 months

Noodles 180g200800

Hungry man size noodles took two month to move from 200 Naira to 800 Naira per pack of 180g

Has these changes affected you? If yes, how. If no, tell us your secrets

I have been affected by this change in prices. Salary is still holding it's place but price of food and other commodities have all moved up.
The things you but at 200 Naira today becomes 230Naira the next morning. All my plans and budgets have been changed.
I have to eat less and spend less. Steemit is giving me hope a lot. It is helping me make some extra income in this hard times.

Conclusion

Things have changed a lot in the pass 10 years but most of the worst change happened in the past few months. With the dollar going up to 1700 Naira, every body around have been affected and are managing to survive. We are just having hope and praying that things get better.
