Good day to all the creative steamians in this community: @steem4nigeria

Today I want to teach us about living organisms and it's activities.

Living organisms

The cell: (as a living unit) Robert Hooke used a crude microscope to examine fine slices of cork and other plant material. He saw small spaces each enclosed in a wall. What he actually saw was cell walls of dead cells.

With the use of some more efficient microscopes, it is now realized that those spaces, which Robert Hooke saw, contain living matter in living cells. This living matter carries out the life processes in the cell. The living matter and the walls surrounding it forms a unit.

The cell structural and functional unit of life, and living thing are composed of cells.
Characteristics of living organisms:

There are activities which distinguish living organisms from non living organisms. They include:

Movement:
Most animals can walk, swim, fly, crawl, from one place to another while plant remains fixed to one spot Movement of whole organism from one place to another is called locomotion.

Respiration:
Living organisms take in oxygen to oxidize the food material taken in, therefore releasing the energy stored in the food which helps them to carry out their life processes (metabolism)that keep them alive.

Nutrition:
Organisms/animals take in manufactured food and green plants make their own food from raw material during the process of photosynthesis. The food they take in get digested and are assimilated into their body and used for growth, repair and replacement of worn out tissues and as energy source.

Irritability:
Living things are sensitive to stimuli(Changes in their environment)and they respond to them. e.g: light, chemical substances, water etc. This response is often by some form of movement. The ability to perceive and respond to stimuli is called irritability.

Growth:
Living things increase in general body and weight at least while they are young.

Excretion:
Many metabolic activities go on in an organism and waste products are released.

These waste products are not needed and may be harmful if left in the body. The process of getting rid of these waste products is called excretion

Reproduction:
Living organisms can reproduce new members of their species and this process is called reproduction

I believe we've all learnt 😊

Peace & Love!

Thank you for sharing all this information about living organisms with us.
What I can add, they can adapt to their environment no matter where they are. (•ิ‿•ิ)
