It's always exciting to make post in a community like Steem4Nigeria. Before I start I would like to invite two fellow Steemians @yakspeace @paholags to participate the contest.
Recently I visited a local library named Ranjan Smriti Pathagar in memory of Dr. Biran Roy's son. It was established in the year 1996 with personal books of Dr. Roy. It is situated on Souren Roy Road just beside the original residential complex of Dr. B. Roy.
The building is two storied including a auditorium of 50 seats. There's a news paper reading room in the ground floor. The news paper reading room open at 7 AM. Very few people come to read newspaper. There were only two persons at that time. I climbed stairs to reach the first floor library hall where one assistant librarian was working on a computer and another library assistant spoke to me. One don't require any membership to visit the place!. Only you require to sign in register. The reading room and library are free to use. I found many interesting books including complete set of Encyclopaedia of Britannica.
They informed there are index cards for every books. This is also a reading library. There are closed book almirah as well as open book racks. Books in the open racks are full of accommodated dust. Even the books covers are not visible and readable. They said that some spray of pesticides is provided by them. It seems there is no schedule pest control. It is sad that books are damaging very fast due to non usage and poor maintenance. There was photo frames of famous figures of Bengal. One picture of Dr Roy and Subash Chandra Bose which is a book cover, is also displayed on a almirah containing books written by Dr. B. Roy. It was closed. One oil painting of Swami Vivekananda is also there.
Name of the auditorium is Nataraj. The property is now under Biren Roy Trust. There are some litigation and it is under observation of High court. I wish I also donate some of my personal books to the library. There were hips and piles of books donated by others.
