Actually Neel shasthi is the rituals like Shivaratri just happened few days ago. Like that people used to carry holy water from different points and pour holy water on Shivalingam of famous temple. In our locality people used bring holy water from Kalighat and they pour the water at Baro Kachari.

Charak Utsav was first introduced by one King named Sundarananda Thakur in the year 1445.

In Indian hindu epic it is said that on that day Shiva devotee Banar Raja Dwarkadhish was blood shredded in a fight with Krishna, so to attract his Lord Shiva he dedicated the blood to him and got the boon and blessings.

Following that popular believe, this Charak Puja is also Shiva Puja in different format.

Here the so called Sanyasis do lot of sacrifices like walking over burning coal, brocken glass as well as hanging on the Charak Tree after offering Puja to Mahadev. The charak tree is a merigoround revolving on a post. They used to clean the post and bamboo branches with water, milk and Oil. This is done to retain the things intact and inspection for any development of defect. Then they fit the cross bamboo branch on top of the post. Once the post is erected it is stabilized by filling the pit with mud excavated from pit. They conducted the Puja with offering of fruits and sweet and chanting Joy Baba Mahadever Joy.

Then some of them revolve arround the post in air at high speed just to show their tricks and absorb pain to satisfy Lord Shiva to get boons and blessings.
