Greetings my dear friends of Steemit and Steem4Nigeria

It's always exciting to make post in a community like Steem4Nigeria. Before I start I would like to invite two fellow Steemians @zulbahri and @chiagoziee to participate in the contest.

International mother language day is observed on 21st February every year. This year marks the 25th anniversary of international mother language day. The theme for international mother language day 2025 is silver Jubilee celebration of international mother language day. Various events and activities were planned worldwide to engage communities in discussions workshops and performances that celebrate their unique languages and promote awareness of the need to protect them.

Let's discuss historical background in recognition of the Bengali people's struggle for their language and culture. In November 1999 the General Conference of the United Nations educational scientific and cultural organization UNESCO declared International mother language day which the UN General Assembly further recognized in a 2002 resolution.

The day emphasizes the importance of linguistic diversity cultural identity and multilingual education now moving on to significance the day encourages the preservation of 8,324 Global languages many of which are at risk of Extinction International mother language day highlights the importance of linguistic Heritage and cultural identity this day Fosters respect for multilingualism and cultural diversity.

Though the day is celebrated in Dhaka as well as several parts of Bangladesh. Likewise the day is celebrated in Kolkata at Bangladesh High commission. However this year the magnitude of the celebration was not as impressive as previous years. It was celebrated in a closed door manner without a single Indian invitee. Though the occasion is utilised for the cross border cultural unity between Bengalis of india and Bangladesh, this year no rituals at Petrapole border was observed due to growing diplomatic distance.

The major celebration of the day at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata was cancelled this year which has been observed since 2011.

However West Bengal Government officials celebrated the day in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well as many other Clubs and cultural Institutes.
