My Neighborhood Watch #1

Good day to the amazing people of the @steem4nigeria community. With a heart of gratitude, I'm here to share with you some happenings in my environment. Before then, I give special thanks to @xkool24 for organizing this contest.

Daily, we wake up to new and strange happenings in our environment. Some of the news can end up putting a smile on our faces, while others come with fear, sorrow, and tribulations. Some of the news can even sometimes makes us wonder if the world 🌎 has come to an end. With that being said, follow me to know the latest happening in my environment (Jalingo, Taraba state, Nigeria).

I woke up one morning to notice that most cars, tricycles (Napep), and motorcycles were parked by their owners. It was a serious issue within the entire state as people who are supposed to use either their car or take public transport to their place of work now walk to their working places.

The issue was so serious that it has affected and still affects the engineers whose only work is repairing cars, motorcycles, or tricycles. Based on my last conversation with a friend who happens to be a roadside mechanic, life is becoming unbearable for them as they hardly eat three square meals a day.

I was shocked to learn that life is unbearable for them because most people don't longer bring their machines for repairs. Little had I known that the issue affects almost everyone around the state due to the lack of sufficient public transportation. To make the issue worse, the prices of goods in the market have gone from expensive to more expensive.

One might be wondering why the whole state is facing or passing through such a challenging period. But the truth is, some weeks ago, the federal government of Nigeria announced the removal of fuel subsidies. This has led to much increase in the price of fuel. Before now, fuel was sold at the rate of #260 (2 steem), but after the removal of fuel subsidies, it increased to #560.

This has led to an increase in the price of public transport, and some car owners who can not afford the fuel park their cars. Also, the prices of goods increased in the market. This has made me understand that when they are an increase in transportation fees, the price of any other thing is likely to increase.
