What were the lies you believed while growing up?
While growing up and seeing a lot of mango fruits in the area where I grew up, I was not only told but was warned on several occasions never to soak Garri after eating mango or drink minerals such as Coke, Fanta, Pepsi, etc which to date I am yet to find out what consequences there are in doing so.
While growing up, I believed in the lies and deceit myself anything that had to do with the lies I was told about, until I saw someone take Garri and Mango in my very present. While growing up, I was told if one should soak Garrium Sulphate after eating Mango he or she would die immediately I became so scared, and even at every time I saw someone taking both, I shouted at the person saying do you want to die or what and he just smile at me, which till date he is looking healthy and strong.
What was your reaction after finding out the truth as an adult?
Well, I didn't react more, rather than to surprise about the reason why I was told about such lies. I had to calm down and watch someone taking it, after asking the person he told me, he was also fed with the same lies while growing up, I then said to myself that it is a way of telling or stopping children from eating too much such as mixing of foods which can cause stomach pain.
You know every child likes taking something sweeter and I believe the reason for the lies is for me to be mindful of the things I eat as mixing both can be harmful to my immune system. However, I felt bad initially that my parents had lied to me but at the end of the day, I found out that I was not the only one who was told about such lies.
Do you subscribe to telling lies to young minds in a bid to protect them or do you choose to call a spade a spade?
Yes, I will subscribe to telling lies to young minds in a bid to protect them rather than allowing them to do something that can be too risky for their health. I discovered that young minds obey lies rather than the truth which I will tell them to keep them safe.
I am inviting my friends; @dave-hanny, @ruthjoe, and @vickyson to also join me.
