Steem greetings from the motherland Nigeria and welcome to my blog as i share my entry to the week 3 engagement challenges . It has been an amazing season 12, with a great topic of discussion.
Today's topic will be on security. As we all know that security is very important. I stay in Nigeria where security is a very big challenge. People die everyday due to the poor security situation in the country especially in the northern part of the country. I will be writing this based on the questions below. I hope you enjoy reading through. Now lets begin

In your own words what do you understand by security? |
---|
Security is a state of feeling secure, freedom from fear, anxiety, danger, doubt, it is something that gives or assures safety, tranquility, certainty protection and safeguard. It is derived from the latin word meaning freedom from anxiety se (without) + cura (cure, anxiety). There are different types of security we have food security, personal security, environmental security
We will be talking about environmental security.
In your country, in what ways has the government been able to keep the citizens safe? |
---|
I'm pretty sure everyone knows thats its the responsibility of the government to protect its citizens. It is also the responsibility of we as citizens to secure our environment with the resources given to us by the government. The first way by which the government has been able to provide us with security is by providing us with security agent like the Nigerian police and Army.
Although things haven't been rosy despite having these agents. The police especially are not safeguarding instead they are the ones making the place unsafe for us. So it's safer to protect ourselves instead of depending on these security agents.
What do you for yourself or your family to be safe jn your town or country? |
---|
First i try to mind what i post on social media. Social media is a very toxic place where you meet billions of people wuth different perspective on issues. The amount of information given on social media can greatly influence the way you safeguard lives. Secondly, i got a very big dog for my parents last year.
A Rottweiler to be precise. We let it roam about freely at night. Thirdly, i try to avoid lift from strangers because of the high rate of kidnapping in Nigeria; I would rather take public transport. Lastly, i always ensure i keep my loved ones informed about my movements and they also reciprocate.. If theres anything going on, i try to my possible best to let them know so they won't fall into danger at all times.

Have u heard or experienced of any case of insecurity? What happened? |
---|
Yes i have. It was a very terrible experience. It was on a Sunday night, we just had dinner, my mom got back from work late that day so we ate late. After dinner she then decided to go to bed to sleep. My elder brother was watching a movie with my mom's laptop. I was in the living room watching a football match between Tottenham vs Crystal palace.
Soon there was a loud whistle outside; we all thought it was the vigilante watching over us. The sound of the whistle became louder as it approached my house. Immediately I switched off the television and tried to peep to see who was coming. I saw a tall muscular man on thick clothes, his face was covered with a mask. I ran into my mom's room to inform her. My dad was not around that very day. Not long after that there was a heavy push on our wooden door.
The thief kept hitting the door with his boots. I just stood in the passage waiting for whatever may come my way. As soon as the door was broken i ran inside thw room, he followed me. He told everyone of us to lay down. My mom pleaded with him not to hurt us. He carried my mom's phone and laptop and also a sum of two thousand naira and left. My little sister was fast asleep thank God she didn't experience none of that.
Not until the next day the thief was caught and happened to be one of those vigilantes. We could not get any of our properties back but the vigilante was arrested by the police. I still feel the pain whenever i talk about thus story because my favorite game was in that laptop " Freedom Fighters".
What do you think is the best way to keep a home secure? |
---|
Securing your house involves various factors, as mentioned in our home security how-tos. However, following our recommendations will significantly improve your safety and security. In simple terms, here's how to prevent burglaries and avoid becoming an easy target:
While it may seem obvious, one-third of all home burglars gain entry through unlocked doors and windows. Despite feeling comfortable in our familiar neighborhoods, it's crucial to err on the side of caution and secure all possible entrances to your home. Many burglars go from house to house in search of easy opportunities, so taking this common-sense step can keep your home off their radar.
Homes equipped with alarm systems are a staggering 300% less likely to be burglarized compared to those without. Even displaying a window or lawn sign advertising your security system can deter potential intruders. Some homeowners may be hesitant due to perceived high costs or technical upkeep. However, there are affordable options available, and smartphone technology has made managing your alarm system convenient from anywhere.

Saludos amiga
