THE INCIDENCE THAT TOOK MY LIFE..

This was not what I bargained for.

I was returning from the mart I was sent to get something from, by my mother. It was past eight in the night and she deemed me fit since I was the eldest of her three children.

She had drawn her earlobes vehemently ordering me not to waste time as it was late. She wouldn't have sent any of her children out at that awkward time of the night, but what I was to get from the mart was not needlessly important.

I bustled out of the room with all alacrity, maneuvering carefully on the road smeared with potholes. If anyone was to call me at that time, I'd unapologetically ignore.

I got what I was to get and was on my way home in no time. Then, I heard someone call my name.

I didn't have it in mind to respond, but the persisting voice of this tiny buttercup voice gave me no choice. I turned and found out it was my neighbor- Mrs Thompson.

'I've been screaming your name, Joshua,' she said, catching up with me.

'I'm sorry, but I'm quite in a hurry,' I responded curtly.

'That's all right. I want you to give this to my daughter when you get home,' she muttered, handing me a polythene bag. 'I want to get something at Jingo's store before coming back home and it'd take a while.'

Without hesitation, I collected the bag and headed home not bothering myself with what the content of the bag was.

I knocked softly on the door and her nineteen year old daughter had her head peering out carefully. I greeted and handed the bag to her with the tag "your mother asked me to give you", afterward, swerving to my abode.

Not quite ten minutes, a loud ear-piercing squeal- shout, was heard. So loud that all fifteen tenants in the compound had to come out armed.

It was Mrs Thompson's daughter. She came out wailing and I could recognize the polythene bag with her.

We inquired to know what had happened, but she tossed the polythene bag to the floor and the he.ad of her missing one year old brother rolled out. She was shivering and stereotypically pointed at me.

Before "jack" could be totally pronounced, everyone pounced on me, dashing me hot blows. I tried explaining my ordeal, but two turgid minutes into the lync.hing, I kicked the bucket.
