Steemit greetings from my mother land #Nigeria. How are you all? I hope you all are fine and enjoying your day. I wish you all good health, wealth and a prosperous time ahead. Today, I am here in this amazing community to share with you my experience on running my Petrol Generator with Cooking Gas. I hope you all will find time to read and know more about this alternative and also find it worthy to comment and vote.
In my motherland #Nigeria, Petrol Generators are widely used as a reliable source of power because of frequent outages. However, with the increasing cost of petrol and environmental concerns, many citizens especially business owners that needs power supply to run their businesses are seeking alternative fuel options.
3 months ago, precisely October, 2024 I joined other business owners to embrace the viable solution of converting my petrol generator to run on cooking gas (LPG - Liquefied Petroleum Gas).
I urge my amiable readers to stay tuned as I'm going to explore in this article, the feasibility, benefits, and also the challenges of making this conversion. Let me start with some benefits of Converting to Cooking Gas.
COST-EFFECTIVE
Generally, Cooking Gas (LPG) is cheaper than petrol, but because of the increase rate of demand of LPG in Nigeria as a result of this conversion, Cooking Gas is costlier than petrol. Petrol pump price is currently One Thousand One Hundred Naira per a liter which is equivalent to 3.146 steem while LPG pump price is One Thousand Four Hundred Naira per a kg, equivalent to 3.878 steem. Upon the price increment, LPG is still preferable as petrol burns faster than LPG. This leads to significant savings on fuel costs.
In terms of Environmental Hazard, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a cleaner-burning fuel, producing fewer emissions and less noise pollution compared to petrol generators.
Talking about Safety, LPG is a more stable fuel, reducing the risk of accidents and spills associated with petrol.
CONVERSION PROCESS
Before I converted my petrol generator to run on cooking gas, I considered some technical expertise and specialized equipment involved. I first of all inquired from my generator technician who is a professional if my generator is compatible with LPG conversion.
My technician gave me the rundown of equipments to buy for the conversion which includes: Carburetor, I replaced the carburetor with LPG-compatible carburetor, which is specifically designed to handle the higher pressure and flow rate of LPG.

INSTALLATION OF LPG CONVERSION KITS
These kits typically includes an LPG regulator, hoses, and fittings. The regulator reduces the high pressure of LPG to a safe level for the generator. The fittings tightens the hose to avoid leakage. Gas cylinder serves as a fuel tank that passes LPG through the hose to the carburetor.
CHALLENGES AND CONSIDERATION
While converting a petrol generator to run on cooking gas can be beneficial, I have to also state some challenges I face for the period of 3 months now that I'm running my generator with LPG and possible considerations to keep in mind in case my steemian colleagues decides to convert their generator.
Higher Upfront Cost: The conversion process can be a bit expensive, especially if you hire a professional.
Limited Availability of LPG: In some areas, LPG may not be readily available or may require special ordering. Like myself, I used to travel a far distance to refill my gas.
Maintenance and Repair: LPG generators require different maintenance and repair procedures compared to petrol generators.

TAKE HOME
Converting a petrol generator to run on cooking gas can be a viable alternative for those seeking a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and safer power solution. However, it's essential to carefully consider the benefits, challenges, and conversion process before making a decision. If you're unsure about any aspect of the conversion, consult a professional to ensure a safe and successful transition. Good Luck!
It was all about my Liquefied Petroleum Gas Experience. Thank you for going through my post. Do have a great time ahead.
