Some health benefits of grasshopper to man and some animals

• They have a high content of good quality proteins in their body.
• Grasshopper supply of protein is higher than meat and, contrary to protein supplied by other animals, its harmful fats content is almost non-existent.
• They possess an antibacterial effect which is beneficial to humans.
• It helps in maintenance of a healthy nervous system.
• Research states that grasshoppers supply Vitamin B1 and B12 to the diet, which helps maintain healthy digestive and nervous systems.

• Grasshoppers supply more energy even than some cereals such as wheat.

Economic importance of grasshopper in an ecosystem

• Breaking Down Plant materials:
  The grasshopper benefits humans and the ecosystem in general by facilitating plant decomposition and regrowth, creating a balance in the environment.

• Fertilizing the Soil:
  Same like any other insect or animal, grasshoppers excrete waste after eating. The waste is highly beneficial for fertilization of the soil and facilitating plant growth.

• Primary consumer and prey:
  Though grasshopper may not appreciate this particular role that it plays in the ecosystem, it is a vital source of food for predators in the wild.

• Preventing uncontrolled growth of plant (weed):
  This means that grasshopper plays an important role in preventing plant overgrowth in the environment.
