Crocheting has always been something I enjoy doing when I secondary school. This just reminded me of those times when we would buy wool of different colours and a knitting pin and then use it to knit different things which can include clothing material, cap and even designing slippers. My secondary school days taught me all of these and here again, I've been reminded of these things through the Steemit learning challenge which I want to keep doing in improving my skills. For the purpose of this skill share, I thought of sharing my own skills here on how to create a crochet hand band with elastic. These are the procedures carried out to make this possible.
Materials |
---|
To make a hand band crochet, you must have the following equipment or tools
- Elastic band
- Wool at lest 2 or 3
- Knitting pin
These equipment are very essential in the preparation of the hand band people call hair ponytail as it's not just a band worn around the wrist but it's a hair band used to support the extended end of the hair with the wool as material. For specification purposes, these are the materials I used.
1 purple color of stamen yarn
5- meter of knitting pin
5 inches of white elastic rubber

Knitting is very technical. As the parent name crochet implies, it involves more than just braiding wool and nesting it to form a substance or tool. It involves high level of technicalities so as not to miss a step which may lead to loosing. Sometimes you may need support to avoid intertwining the wool.
Hair ponytail is also known as hairband or hair ribbon here in Nigeria. It is mostly used by females to pack their hair or style their hair with it. It is a privilege to share my skill in because this is the first time of me doing a crochet ponytail. I'm happy to learn and crochet it myself. I think it was lack of job and boredom that made me do this. It's been months I set my hands on a knitting pin but guess what, I came to derive pleasure from doing so.
Step one: I took out my purple wool and loosened it in such a way that it doesn't get tied or intertwined. I doubled my stamen yarn because I want it to be more thicker then I went on to crochet it round my white elastic to cover it up. The following video shows how practical I made this.
Step 2: I proceeded tying the two edges of my white elastic rubber together to give me the round shape I need. After tying it, I made with the wool to cover up the band and I used the tips of my fingers to extend it in a that it won't be buffed. I start knitting the first round by knitting around my elastic rubber to cover it up squarely.
Step 3: I started the second round after I finished crocheting round my elastic rubber. I crochet through the first round to create my second round. This ensures thickness of the crochet stitches and makes the wool holes tiny but beautiful. In this step, I was done with the second change and I started creating my petals. This is my first time of creating a petals with crochet so pursed for sometimes to watch the video when I noticed I wasn't getting it right. I watch the video several times before I continue a got it right at the end
I'm very excited to do this myself with the help of the host tutorials. I'm glad I started the new year by learning new thing from this platform. It took me 6 hours to finish it. See how beautiful the hair ponytail looks. This hair beautifying substance is used to tied the pony around the hair, mostly used by women to create first impression if they can't keep up with the long hair stretch....

This is a very beautiful piece but would have been lovely if you showed us the band on your wrist.
