99 days for the thief, one day for the owner. This is no common statement and it has been fulfilling in many ways. The way the economy in Nigeria is hard has made many go into a state of poverty. They barely eat three times again because what they used to buy before to manage their lives has trippled in price and reduced in quantity. The level of hunger has touched a lot of lives that many are going into stealing of other people's properties to suite their needs. This post highlights cases of such happenings in my area.
Catching A Thief |
---|
One Friday evening, I heard lot of shouting and ran to see what the cause was. l saw a large crowd gathering opposite the street in my house. I got outside just to see village boys hitting a young guy so hard that he nearly fainted. His body was bleeding from the hit. Someone used block on his head that the boy fell to the floor.
When I asked what happened, they said he wanted stealing in broad daylight. The story goes this way. He entered a house by jumping the fence of the house when he saw the owner of the house had gone to pick his children from school.
He entered and used his bare hands to highjack the gate protector in that house. Once he had entrance, he started packing valuables like The plasma television, laptops and other things into a big bag. While he was packing, the owner of the house came back and told his children to stay outside that someone has broke in.
As he entered, he locked the main doors since the protector was highjack or removed. The thief knowing he was in grave danger attacked the man and fought with him. He bullied the man so much that he nearly fainted. The man shouted for help but didn't know he was heard. The thief then used the roof top and tried running out of the house but bursted in someone's kitchen.
It was then the boys in that compound pursued and boycott him. They held him captive and and hit him so hard that he slummed. Other villagers came, heard the news and did worse. They wanted burning him but couldn't become they were afraid of jungle justice and murder case.
They naked him and walked him round the street. I could see fear in the boys face. He begged but they kept on hitting him. The owner of the house came and gave him all the punches he gave the man inside the house. He wanted pouring acid on the boy's face but was withheld. He escaped narrow death. One week Robbery |
---|
Like I said, the rate of insecurity has increased greatly because of the increment in prices of means of living. If you keep your valuables **anyhow, don't expect to see it in seconds because there are people timing that property of yours. I can remember when serious stealing of phones took place in my campus. After exams, people that keep their bags in front of the exams hall and sit at the far end won't see it again.
So deliberating on the one week robbery in the village that's 10 minutes trek from our street, the visitors leaving there are contemplating leaving that street to another area as the terrorising is just too much. These robbers wrote a letter to the village head of that village. In the letter, they were informing him of their visit to his house at night that they would rob him.
The village head was confused and scared as well that he brought securities to protect him that night. The worst happened. Even with the securities, the robbed the man and packed a lot of valuables but didn't harm the man. I don't know how they did it with those top securities but it was the talk of the town. The village head didn't keep quiet.
He went and put his hand into something he originally haven't had intentions of doing. The next day, all his valuables were returned back to him as he gave them 24 hours to do so or they'll die. Furious, they robbed the village for good one week without entering the village heads house.
Every night, they'll enter with tact even when policeman were around. They played serious tricks with these policeman. They'll attempt to rob a house and then threaten the owner of the house to call the police. When the police are on their way to the house, these robbers will go to another far place and do serious robbing.
They changed strategy for the good one week. About 30 house were robbed that week. Most people went to conjure to kill these robbers because they couldn't tolerate their losses. No one knew whether the robbers used magic in blindfolding these policemen or something. .
The aftermath was that in 2 days time, 10 robbers out of the 25 ran mad. It was really serious.
This is what happened in my neighbourhood......The level of insecurity is just too high that we are dependent on God for protection.
