Good day my follow steemians today i will love to write on the topic cell and it's environment, but first of all what is cell. Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of an organism.
The environment of a cell is a total surrounding it may be a medium such as liquid, air and solid in which the live.

IMPORTANCE OF THE CELL ENVIRONMENT

  • Provides food substance and oxygen for the cell.
  • Keep the cell moist and prevent from drying up.
  • Provides a medium in which excretory product from the cell are disposted.
  • Chemical reactions takes place in some medium provided by the cell.

EXCHANGE OF MATERIAL BETWEEN CELL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

  • Food materials
  • Gases
  • Water
  • Excretory substances

PROCESS INVOLVED IN THE EXCHANGE OF MATERIAL

  • Diffusion
  • Osmosis
  • Plasmolysis
  • Haemolysis
  • Turgidity
  • Flaccidity
  • Active transport

WHAT IS DIFFUSION
Diffusion is a process by which molecule of substance move from a region of the higher concentration to a region of the lower concentration through a medium of air or liquid, until they are evenly distributed.

FACTOR THAT AFFECT DIFFUSION
Surface area, temperature, sight of the molecules, presence of concentration gradient shaking or stirring.

IMPORTANCE OF DIFFUSION TO ANIMALS

  • Exchange of materials between mother and focus.
  • Absorption of digested food into intestinal wall.
  • Exchange of gases during respiration in mammal.

IMPORTANCE OF DIFFUSION TO PLANT

  • Respiration in flowering plants.
  • Translocation of food in the phloern.
  • Movement of mineral salt through the cell.

OSMOSIS
osmosis is the movement of water molecule from region of low concentration of solute to a region of high concentration of solute through a semi-permeable membrane.

TERMS ASSOCIATED IN OSMOSIS

  • Hypotonic
  • Hypertonic
  • Isotonic

CONDITION NECESSARY FOR OSMOSIS TO TAKE PLACE

  • presence of weaker condition.
  • Presence of a stronger condition.

DIFFERENT BETWEEN DIFFUSION AMD OSMOSIS

  • It doesn't need semi-permeable membrane while osmosis need semi-permeable membrane.

  • Occur in living and non-living organism while osmosis occur in living organism.

  • Occur in solid, liquid and gase while osmosis occur in only liquid medium.

  • Molecules diffuse into any space available to them while osmosis move between two solution of different osmostic pressure leading to establishment of osmosis equilibrium.

PLASMOLYSIS
This is the flow of water from living cell when they are placed on more concentrated salt solution.

HAEMOLYSIS
This is the bursting of the red blood cells in the plasma due to excessive in take of water.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN PLASMOLYSIS AND HAEMOLYSIS

  • Both gain move water into cell
  • Both occur in living cell
  • Both may lead to death of cell

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLASMOLYSIS AND HAEMOLYSIS

  • Plasmolysis occur in plant while haemolysis occur in red blood cells

  • Plant cell shrinks while red blood cells bursts

  • Occur in hypontonic solution while haemolysis occur in hypertonic solution.

Turgidity
Is where the cell is fully stretched due to absorption of move water into the cell.

FLACCIDITY
Is where the plant losses water to the surrounding faster than they can absorp.

ACTIVE TRANSPORT
Is a process where by molecules pass across a semi permeable membrane of a living cell against the concentration gradient.
