My Neighborhood Watch #48 - Reporting Events Around us

It's another day to report the events happening in the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. I came in here partly as a fan of this team and a blogger to capture every bit of what is happening here, had it been I had a camera with a high resolution, I believe you would have been so captivated by pictures of players on the pitch with their dribbling skills, the penalty shoot-out moment and even the moment when a player was sent out by the red card.

So I left my house prepared and I was present here because I was invited to cheer up my coursemates who were the major players in their team, the football match was an inter-level football competition between the students of science education and it was a marathon competition which the cup was to be taken that same day, meaning that each level was to play twice and the first team to play was the 200 level student against 300 level student, 400 level against 200 level student and the outcome was to determine who was to play the third place and the final match.

So the game began as the 200-level students stormed the field to play with 300-level students, the match was a tough one, both teams played so well but they lacked ball control, the dribbling skills were very poor, they both had the same level of ball possession and shots on target was very discouraging as they had no shot on target, the first half ended with a goalless draw and after the usual 15 minutes, they proceeded to the second half and in this half, almost the same thing was experienced.

The 200 level student put more pressure on us, they played so well that I feared they would win, for you to know the extent to which they battled with us, one of our players aggressively committed a foul, it seems to be a mistake, actually, no foul is a mistake, it was intentional because the guys dribbling skill was awesome. The referee had no second thought than to give him a red card, but that was too strict of him, other players became angry with the referee, that's the game of football for you and the game proceeded, when this player was out we experienced a little slack in the midfield strength but we thank God second half ended a goalless draw.

It was a thrilling experience, the 90-minute extra time was cancelled since the teams would have to play again that same day so it was time for the penalty shootout, I didn't keep records of the score because I was concerned with our keeper catching the ball and the selected player scoring, the opposition team shot off target twice and our goalkeeper caught one fierce shot, shot to the centre of the post and that was a lose for the opposition team. We won.

I didn't stand to observe the performance of the next team since I had another important assignment, but I got the information from my friends that the 100-level students lost to their seniors. We later proceeded to the final with the 400 level and we lost too. The second place is not bad actually but we needed the cup. Maybe next season we will take that cup.
