Introduction
Virtually everyone procrastinates. Severally, it has been said that procrastination is a thief of time and even of life. Sometimes, we procrastinate with the truest of intentions, while other times we procrastinate out of laziness.
If we look back at our lives, there are probably a lot of things we would have achieved or that were delayed because of procrastination. With the busy and tight schedules people have these, it is become increasingly difficult to overcome procrastination. There is so much to do in a small period of time.
Succeeding or failing in many things you do to a large depends on your capacity to get rid of procrastination.
How I overcome procrastination
Like I mentioned earlier, everyone practices procrastination. However, for you to be someone who gets stuff done on time, you should procrastinate on things that have little or no significance. Conversely, people who achieve less procrastinate on things that have huge significance.
You should intentionally determine which activities you are going to set aside. Go through the things you have to do for the day, pick out the ones you won't do until you have successfully done the other ones of higher value. It is important you intentionally and willingly procrastinate in this way in order to avoid procrastinating mistakenly or unconsciously.
Break down tasks to smaller pieces
break down huge tasks you have to do into smaller pieces. Breaking it down into smaller pieces makes it look achievable and easy to do. You could make a list of the small pieces and do them one by one.
Most times all you need is to find the courage to begin the first small piece, then you would find yourself gathering momentum to complete all of the tasks.
Psychological boost
Form a habit of telling yourself to do a particular thing at that moment if you find yourself procrastinating. Telling yourself these things boosts your level of productivity. The idea behind this is that saying these things makes them stick to your subconscious and compels you to do things when you are supposed to do them.
The feeling of urgency
Give yourself the feeling of urgency. Always strive to get things done as quickly as possible. Give yourself a deadline if possible. Achieving tasks quickly and perfectly gives you the satisfaction and joy to want to do more.
Conclusion
Procrastination has cost many of us a lot. It is something definitely worth overcoming to a large extent. Instead of letting yourself become a victim of procrastination, you could use it to your advantage. The tips mentioned above have worked really well for me and are worth trying, for those who procrastinate a lot.
