Probably, you guys may have heard of CVA/ Stroke or may even have relatives or friends who are victims of this disease regardless, all I intend to achieve in this contest is not only to win but to also help us know what causes it, understanding how this condition happens in the body(pathophysiology) and the basic management that we can offer to our immediate victims.

To begin with CVA/Stroke is simply a condition that deals with an impairment in the brain function due to damages in the brain(brain cells) which later affects the the body functions either wholely or partially.

Literally, there are two types of Stroke and that is;

  1. Ischaemic stroke.
  2. Hemorrhagic stroke.

A person can be diagnosed with ischaemic stroke when that particular stroke is caused by maybe an underlying condition causing a blockade in the brain's blood vessels. And on the other hand, hemorrhagic stroke occurs when that blockade or something else causes the brain's blood vessels to burst.

Stroke can be caused by many conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Smoking, Obesity and etc all resulting from a bad lifestyle.

Now, taking smoking for instance, cigarette contains a substance called nicotine which when enters the body, causes the blood vessels to become harden or stiffen. This cause your blood flow to increase in the pressure at which it passes through the blood vessels as it faces resistance from the harden blood vessels. As the blood pressure increases extensively, it then causes the vessel to burst which leads to bleeding in the brain. This bleeding immediately causes the brain cells to starve since it's not getting the blood supply it needs and then boom...brain function impairment occurs(Stroke).

People with stroke suffers a lot and we can all help them through these hard times. Aside from being paralyzed wholely or partially, they also suffer from speech impairment and memory loss depending on the part of the brain affected. Some also suffer from other things like writing difficulties, reading difficulties, urinary problems, social rejections and etc.

Having people around them, visiting the physiotherapy, assisting them in the activities of their daily living and most of all, accepting them as human beings are the few management that we can all offer to them. Let's help these victims through their difficult times and let's also take care of the kinda lifestyle we live because, we are all potential patients. Thank you ☺️😘
