Do you think Age Gap is a Problem in a relationship

Hello friends in Steem for Nigeria community, it is another moment to participate in a contest in this community. In this debate contest, I am here to support the motion that age gap can pose a problem in a relationship and should be considered before further engagement in a relationship.

Right from the Bible time age gap has always been considered in marriage and this was the case between Abraham and Sarah. Abraham was 12years older than Sarah, this age gap was considerate. This is because the nature of many women has it that once they have put to birth they turn out to look more mature and grow older.

Age gap is the difference in the ages of two people in a relationship. That is if a female partner is 20years old while the male partner is 25years, the age gap between them is 5 years. For example we can say there is a huge age gap in a relationship in the case of the 62years old popular politician Ned Nwoko who married a 24years old Regina Daniels, a popular young actress in Nigeria. The age gap between this couple is 38years.

Many people get married to people of older age for so many reasons. Some claim that it is because of love, while others marry people of older age because of money and firm. Age gap can pose a problem in a relationship even though it may depends on the level of understanding between the two partners involved in the relationship.

Yes age gap have a way of affecting relationships a lot. The problem age gap may pose are:

Decline in Sexual Desire: Naturally people of older ages usually experience decline in sexual urge and this in turn will affect their performance and engagement in sexual activities. The effect of this is unfaithfulness in the relationship as the younger partner may consider getting sexual satisfaction from another person outside the marriage. The example is a case of my childhood friend whose mother after giving birth to four of them left her father and be sexing younger men in order to satisfy her sexual urge because her father was far older than her mother.

Feeling of Disrespectful: People of older age will naturally feel disrespectful if a younger person communicates or converses as with their mate. This is natural and I experience this a lot with my husband, even when our age gap is not much. In a conversation or communication I feel like I am talking with my partner, he always feels like I am insulting him, even when it is a joke at times. The effect of this is that it doesn't allow free expression of one's self or feelings. There is restrictions in communication and expression of feelings which could further lead to more problems.

Lack of Confidence when walking with the Partner: If a partner is far older than the other, the younger partner may not have the confidence of working with his partner in the public. He or she will always feel shy, considering the public opinions.

If my partner is my age mate or younger than me I am not comfortable with such relationship. If he is also older than me from 13 years upward I cannot continue with such relationship.

For me the age gap in a relationship should be from 5years to 12years, any age older than this age range is a no for me.

In conclusion I will advise young people to always consider the effects and repercussions of marrying someone older before engaging in such relationship. If it is something they can cope then no problem they can go ahead, if not they should reconsider their decision.
