Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 19: The boarding school effect on children

Hello there amazing Nigerian steemians how is your day going I hope all is well as for me mine is going smoothly, to I will be taking part in the steem4nigeria accelerator contest organize that is titled "The boarding school effect on children"

HAVE YOU OR SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU EXPERIENCED LIFE IN A BOARDING SCHOOL? WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE?

My case is entirely different because eversince I was a kid I was living inside the school compound which was indeed a boarding school, but I wasn't a boarder because my father was a teacher so we'd stayed with him in the staff quarters inside the school compound.

Though growing up I have spent more times with them boarders right from my tender age to when I'd graduated from secondary school so trust me when I say that I know a lot about boarding school life.

Boarding school life is always very amazing because finally at a young age you get to escape mom and dad which to some kids that means a lot, also the experiences in boarding school helps get a child prepare for the world he or she is growing into.

Because in a boarding school there's no mom and dad or senior brother to run to when ever you have a problem rather it is you vs your problem alone until the term is over.

WILL YOU LOVE TO SEND YOUR KIDS TO A BOARDING SCHOOL? PLEASE GIVE YOUR REASONS.

Absolutely yes, I would really love to send my kids to a boarding school and some of the reasons are;

• To get them prepared for the cruel world there are growing into
• To teach them a sense of orderliness
• To teach them to always learn to economise and manage the little they have
• To expose them
• To help them to get more serious with their education as in boarding schools there usually have a compulsory reading session.

Some of the reasons that would really prompt me to send my kids to school are so many and way beyond listing, because boarding school teaches a child so many things ranging from how to control their fear to being tasty for freedom.

As the senior students always beat and tried to over ruled the junior ones by restricting them of so many things including their own personal freedom which at that time would seems like a burden but when they grow up to them it will feel like some sort of training in preparation for something big.

WHAT HAVE BEEN THE EXPERIENCE TRYING TO RELATE, TO BOND OR TO ADJUST A KID AFTER SPENDING YEARS IN A BOARDING FACILITY.

Trust sometimes it is always very difficult to adjust a child from a certain act or character after spending years in a boarding school, for example as a boarder your parents will give you plenty of garri with milk, sugar, Milo, golden morn etc.

But at the end you will notice that golden morn will be the first to finish after that milk and milo then you will be left with you garri and little sugar, so whenever the hostels food isn't enough you will have to back it up with sipping your garri so this habit will have to continue like that through out your stay in the boarding school.

Then after the boarding school life trust me it will be very hard to stop the habit of sipping garri because for many years in the boarding school that has been your means of survival so it will be very hard to be able to derial from it.

DO BOARDING SCHOOL REALLY PRODUCE PEOPLE WHO ARE READY AND ABLE TO COPE WITH THE REALITY OF LIFE WITHOUT THE TRADITIONAL PARENTAL GUIDANCE?

Yes of course life as we all know it is cruel and unbearable to endure so do the senior students in the boarding schools as they always try victimizing the junior students by beating and punishing them over nothing at the same time threatening them to keep quiet 🤐 and not to report to any teacher.

The reality of life is unforgiving so do the senior students in the boarding house cause if you report them today to any staff or teacher over what they did and there are punish they will never forgive you until one day when you fall into their trap which is indeed how the real world operates.

So it is always true when they say that boarding schools produces people that are able to endure and withstand the reality of life more than those daddy boys and mommy's girl who never left their parents sight until adulthood

CAN THE DISCIPLINE OBTAINED FROM SUCH INSTITUTION EQUAL THAT OF THE PARENTS AT HOME?

It is true that the discipline obtain in a boarding school is totally different from the discipline at home because at home your parents will try disciplining you with a little care and understanding meanwhile in the boarding schools the senior students do not care about all those things all they care about is that this is time for compound work that you must work, this is time for reading you must read, this is time to fetch water you must fetch etc.

WHAT CAN'T BE LEARNT IN A BOARDING FACILITY? DO YOU THINK THEY ARE MISSING OUT OF ANY IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THEIR DEVELOPMENT?

You know when they say boarding schools it comes in various types so I'm giving my own explanation and point of view due to the one I've experienced and witness.

The only thing that can't be learnt in a boarding school is brotherly love as even your best friend can still go behind your back to open your locker and take your food and also the senior students are always very brutal and strict when enforcing discipline.

And lastly I do not think that there's something missing out in the development of boarding schools because if there is that means that there's something missing out from the real world which there isn't any missing.
