Good day steemiams. Happy Christmas to everyone. This contest topic is indeed an interesting one. One which I’m delighted to write about. Here are my views concerning the subject matter

WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY THE WORD “HERO”?

I believe, a hero is an individual who does or has done noble acts worthy of praise and admiration. This individual often does acts of good deeds and bravery. A hero is just an ordinary individual without wings or dragons or an epic quest, who takes it upon his/herself to d selfless acts that will benefit the people around him/her.

Such individual is willing to make certain sacrifices for the betterment of all in the society. Sometimes, heroes may be a collection of individuals who come together and put their resources together to deal with certain issues that affect the peaceful coexistence of people in a society. It could be that they take it upon themselves to fight crime and ensure peace and order in a given society.

WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES SOMEONE A HERO, WHETHER THEY WEAR A CAPE OR NOT?

Contrary to the fictional beliefs the entertainment industry has painted over the years, where a hero can be someone who inexplicably develop some super human powers or abilities which they somehow use discreetly to save the human race and prevent the world from destruction. Being a hero isn’t necessarily so and one must not need to posess any super human powers or wear a cape to be called a hero.

What truly makes one a hero includes;

  • The ability for such individual to sacrifice and give of himself for the greater good of others and for the betterment of the society.

  • The ability for such person to be bold and courageous to fight for what is right without cowering in fear when things go wrong.

  • The ability to uphold strong moral values and stand by what is right and good while issuing out justice in a non partial manner.

  • The conviction, empathy and care towards other people to help them in need and achieve a better society free of crime , injustice and so on

HOW CAN WE ENCOURAGE MORE ACTS OF HEROISM IN OUR COMMUNITIES?

We can encourage individuals to perform more heroic acts by;

1. SETTING AN EXAMPLE:

One way of encouraging acts of heroism by people is by actually doing some of these acts in your own little way. Being a hero in your own way can encourage ore people to try to make the world a better place for all of us. Little things like helping others in need, defending the oppressed and less privilege, reporting criminals and crimes around you are heroic acts and can go a long way in encouraging others to stand up for what is right and do selfless and good deeds in the little way they can.

2. TEACHING CHILDREN AND THE YOUNGER GENERATION LITTLE THINGS LIKE EMPATHY TOWARDS OTHERS, HELPING THE POOR AND NEEDY AND SO ON:

When the younger generation learns from an early age some of the heroic attributes like bravery, empathy, selflessness, integrity and more, in the long run they can grow up to take up the mantle. By teaching and grooming our children and the younger ones around us little heroic acts like; helping the elderly cross the streets, report crimes to the police and helping the needy we train and encourage more acts of heroism.

3. RECOGNISING AND CEBLEBRATING INDIVIDUALS WHO DO LITTLE HEROIC ACTS:

More ways we can encourage heroism in our society is by identifying and celebrating individuals who has performed one act of heroism or the other. In this way, it will encourage more people to do the same.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT ANYONE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A HERO? WHY OR WHY NOT

Imbedded in each individuals are heroic qualities yet unborn waiting to be let loosed. All it takes is for one to look within themselves and they will find the potential to become a hero. Anyone can be a hero, even a newly convicted criminal can turn out to be a hero. It is all about having the willingness to put other people's need before your own and helping wherever you can.

IF YOU COULD BE A HERO WITHOUT A CAPE, WHAT POSITIVE CHANGE WOULD YOU MAKE

If I have the opportunity to be a hero without a cape some of the positive changes I would definitely make include;

1. REDUCE CRIME AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN THE SOCIETY:

If I ever have the opportunity to be a hero, one positive change I would make is to eradicate crime in my society . I would take it upon myself to ensure criminals are brought to book. I would monitor and destroy all criminal activities within the society.

2. ENSURE JUSTICE AND FAIR PLAY:

In this modern times we find ourselves where corruption has eaten deep into the system, if I was a hero, I would ensure justice is properlyserves and there is fair play and impartiality in our dealings especially one relating to public affairs and gatherings.

3. PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF MORE INFRASTRUCTURES IN THE SOCIETY.

If I had the opportunity to be a hero, I would use everything I have within my resources to promote the development of the society. I would ensure proper infrastructures are developed and established in the community.

I invite @goodybest, @patjewell and @davidmarkgeorge to participate in this contest.
