MY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH #37 - REPORTING EVENTS AROUND US

Good day steemians, it's been a while. I am happy to participate in this consistent, never ending contest. Today I bring with me, my reports on the metropolis of Port Harcourt city where I reside.

DEMOLITION OF HOUSES AND BUILDINGS

It has come to my observation that the River State Government has begun the demolition of buildings, houses, shops, malls, supermarket and even pharmacies on the road side.

The Rivers State government announced it's intention to expand the roads on some part of Port Harcourt city to reduce congestion and traffic jam. They intend to do a ring road that will cut across various major roads in the city of Port Harcourt. The government officials has gone around, marking buildings that would need to be evacuated for the project they want to embark on. The supposed owners of these buildings were given a short period of time to remove their building and find somewhere else to stay or continue their source of livelihood. This was announced last year on so short notice, for the people whose buildings, shops and houses were on the road.

Recently, the government officials have began their work. Having given so very little time for people to evacuate their buildings. They have scattered and laid waste of all the buildings in the area of the expansion of the road. Rendering people homeless, shopless and all. It was a great trajedy. People were forced to destroy and disemble their shops, piece by piece before the government would do it for them. At a time, thugs and hoodlumps took advantage of the situation, stealing some building parts of people who were yet to scatter their shops or housese. They stole some of their zinc, iron rods used for protectors and so on. It was a hard time fore everyone. The demand for housese and shops for rent was on the high and the subsequently the price for rent went up to.

In the area were I stay, they have started crumbling to pieces whatever remained of the scattered buildings shops and so on. They have used their caterpillar machines to pieces the blocks and stones, clearing everything in thier path and leveling the ground. In time, they would begin construction of the roads. But for now they are still going about, road by road in port Harcourt city, clearing shops and buildings for the expansion.

THE PLANTING SEASON

After a period of extreme heat wave which we all experienced in Rivers State and some other state in nigeria. The rain has finally decided to have mercy on us a little and water our grounds. People are now eager to begin planting their crops and harvesting their yams and cassava. Before now, the extreme hotness of the weather caused most of our plants to wither and die. But now, as the rain has begun showering it's blessings upon us, I must say the planting season has begun and the plants are flourishing as never before.
