Introduction

Hi steemians, how are you all doing? Am glad am posting something new today. Am here to tell you about my school library, secondary school though.

Description of my school library

The name of my school is "DC International Royal Academy" It is a private school in Rivers State, Portharcourt. My school has a small library with a total number of 31 chairs in it. It is painted with the colours yellow and blue. It contains alot of books in which 98% of them was given to my school by the government many years ago.

It also has four bulbs and four ceiling fans. It is decorated with different charts such the one that talks about: the eye, the ear, the kidney, the respiratory system, the digestive system, flowers, the mammalian skin, the human heart and more.

Managers of my school library

The library is been taken care of by our school's civic education and government teacher, Hon. Awajimam Philip as well the two library prefects. Every morning they always make sure the library is clean and neat.

They also make sure nothing is missing in the library. They also punish the law breakers in the library and make sure the library is properly used.

My relationship with my school library

In case you don't know, I am the ex-library prefect in my school and I handed over on the month of March this year. The library has always been my favorite place in the school. Most times I even go there during our break period when am supposed to eat and rest. Am our Mr. Awajimam will always warm to go for my break and eat.

Most times I will agree with him while some times I will plead with him to let me stay and study and he permits me most times.

Why I was appointed the library prefect last year, was because of the way I make use of the school library. According to my school teachers am the only male student in my class who knows how to use the library, they said the other always make noise in the library and I agree with them in 88%

So by the grace of I was made the library prefect of my school last year after I applied for the post. I wanted to apply for the senior prefect which is popularly known as the "SP" but I changed my mind due to some urgent personal reasons 😓. So am leaving the school next month and the SS 2 students are now the prefects.

My school library main challenge

In my tenure i tried to communicate with the school management with the help of Mr. Awajimam and the principal to help us get alot of Storybooks/Novels for the library but they refused. If you check where I listed the materials in my school's library, you will discover I said we have just 3% Storybooks/Novels which is too poor.

Most times students in the school will complain and insult the library saying we lack Storybooks/Novels and this has made me feel bad 😣 I tried all I could but we didn't get any positive response from the management.

I thought of bringing over 74 Storybooks/Novels I and my siblings have at home but I was scared of them being stolen as we do not have a librarian in the school who will stay in the library all the time. The managers such Mr. Awajimam my colleague and I are busy.

Mr. Awajimam normally leaves the library whenever he has class to teach and other important things. I and my female colleague which was my assistant are students, we normally go for class. So there was no hope for us. This is not the only challenge in my school library, I will disclose the others because of time.

Conclusion

My school library is actually an amazing place to spend an awesome time in my school. I just hope all the problems gets solve on time. If you feel you can help me by getting enough Storybooks/Novels in my school library please 🙏 let me know. I will never forget my school library. Bye for now.
